Sony PSP UK release delay?

p2pnet.net News:- Sony’s PlayStation Portable release in the UK has apparently been retarded.

This adds weight to fears that its European debut has slipped a month, says The Register, going on to quote an updated Amazon UK page as saying the PSP will ship on April 29.

“If the date is accurate, it means Sony is likely to miss its global shipment target of 3m PSPs by 31 March 2005, the last day of Sony’s current fiscal year,” says the story, adding:

“That may annoy Sony shareholders, but Nintendo will be pleased. Its DS handheld console is set to ship in Europe on 11 March, giving it more than a month’s head-start on its rival. That said, it didn’t take all that long for Sony to start outselling Nintendo on a week-by-week basis, so the European lead time may not help Nintendo as much as it might hope.”

Just wait till DS released the killer software… PSP will be outsold for sure.

It will be interesting to see Sony entering an arena traditionally held me Nintendo.

The last time this happened (the original Playstation release), Sony triumphed in a pretty spectacular fashion.

There seem to be pros and cons to both platforms, and stating ‘Just wait till DS released the killer software’ is a bit naive. The N64 did have some very good software, but so did the Playstation.

In the end, there is still a huge image problem with Nintendo in Europe. There are seen as a kids company, where as Sony are seen to be aimed at a more ‘mature’ market.

I think the battle will be pretty evenly pitched. But I don’t think anyone has a crystal ball to predict the outcome of this battle.

Hi, just so ya know who i am i’m lonewolf XiX, since Nintendo are considered kids company here, the bigger seller will be the PSP aimed at gaming junkies who have money to spend! mainly around the 18-25 market i would say, Nintendo have reflected as themselves being a kids company with their launch release NintenDogz whcih basically you just act as a loving master to a few little dogs playing ball and skipping with them by using the stylus, i think the PSP’s capability of WiFi internet access will be a great feature which was first incorporated on the GamePark32 but sadly, that was not WiFi and by god was it hard to get it working online! Being able to connect to a pc is also good news and you may be able to download shareware and freeware games whcih is good for a qucik laugh! plus, the fact Nintendo are still using cartidges?! that seems baby-ish too. UMDs are MUCH MUCH better!
