Fiorina’s ‘Tumble from the Top’
p2pnet.net News:- Carly Fiorina was the, “stranger who rode into town and shook things up,” says the San Jose Mercury News.
But, “Vision without success can get you fired,” says the San Francisco Chronicle.
Yesterday Fiorina was relieved of her position as Hewlett-Packard’s prime mover, and today the autopsies began.
“After six years of remaking Hewlett-Packard, celebrity CEO Carly Fiorina fell flat and was ousted,” said the Chronicle’s OpEd. “Fiorina delivered, but only for a while.
“The bloody-but-bold merger with Compaq electrified the business world because it showed Fiorina’s power and ambition in melding two tech giants. But her company ended up without a strong niche in an industry of niches.”
Britain’s The Economist says, “THIS is not a change related to strategy; this is a change…to accelerate the strategy. Thus Patricia Dunn, hours after becoming chairman of Hewlett-Packard (HP), one of the world’s largest technology firms, tried to explain in a call to financial analysts on Wednesday February 9th why she and her fellow directors had, a day earlier, asked Carly Fiorina to resign as HP’s chairman and chief executive.”
“Three years ago, Hewlett-Packard Co. chief executive Carly Fiorina won a public slugfest with board members and shareholders in her quest to buy Compaq Computer Corp,” says Newsday.com. “Yesterday, she went down for the count. Fiorina was ousted by an HP board that had grown impatient with her inability to set the $80 billion Silicon Valley legend on a track for consistent growth and profitability, directors said. HP, known for printers, computers and other high-tech gear for businesses and consumers, has seen its market share steadily slip to rivals such as IBM Corp. and Dell Computer Corp.
“Carly Fiorina’s tumble from the top of Hewlett-Packard seems steep and hard because she was a darling of the business news media for so long, says the New York Daily News.
“In her final weeks, a drumbeat of critical coverage preceded her downfall.
