Nokia, Macromedia, get flashy

p2pnet.net News:- Nokia’s new Series 60, based on the Symbian OS v9.0, will let Series 60 handset makers build smartphones for a number of user segments and device formats so they can, “better target high volume consumer markets,” says the company.

This 3rd edition focuses on, “enhanced multimedia and enterprise functionality, sustainable application business support, state-of-the-art customization enablers and improved platform architecture,” says the company, emphasising that Series 60 will also include the features and functions of the previous editions, including multiradio, extensive application suite, scalable UI and high-resolution support.

In 2008, Nokia expects the smartphone market to be around 25% of the total mobile device market, it says, predicting a clear move towards multiple device segments where different user and market needs will drive the development.

“Enterprise and business or imaging, music, video and games focused smartphones require a robust, configurable software platform with a comprehensive number of new features," says Nokia’s mobile software sales and marketing vp, Antti Vasara.

The Series 60 3rd Edition will offer a new music player – and OMA DRM v2.0.

Not only but also, “Macromedia and Nokia announced an agreement to integrate Macromedia Flash technology into Nokia’s Series 60 Platform for mobile devices, including smart phones,” says InfoWorld..

“The companies said that the Series 60 will become a reference platform for Macromedia’s mobile Flash technology, and Macromedia will implement new versions of its mobile Flash technology on Series 60. In addition, Nokia has agreed to support Flash in its other software platforms.”
