Napster hack = free downloads

p2pnet.net News:- Finally! A use for Napster II!

“In my daily trolling of the world wide web this morning I ran across a very interesting blog entry,” writes JiMiThInG on P2Pforums.

“This blog contains detailed instructions of a new free Napster music give away, only this time Napster doesn’t know about it. With a few easy tricks one can turn Napsters fourteen day free trial into 20,160 minutes of free music, otherwise known as 252 80 minute CD-R’s.”

So how does free-Napster work?

“First download and install Napster. (Wow never thought we would be doing that again, eh?) Second fire up Winamp. Then download and install a winamp plug in called Output Stacker. Next, Open Winamp Options->Plug-ins->Output->Dietmar’s Output Stacker->Configure

Add out_ds.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder
Add out_disk.dll from Winamp/Plug-ins folder
Select out_disk.dll in the Output Stacker->Configure
Set the output directory and output file mode to Force WAV file
Exit preferences

“Finally, download the Napster WMA’s, and press play. As winamp plays each file it will be converted into a .wav file. If you don’t know how to burn that into a standard music CD, unplug your PC and call AOL customer support right away.

“It seems as if the industry may have finally found a way to attract some die hard P2P fans to one of their pay services.

“Granted I don’t see or stay lasting any longer then 14 days, and if we try this at all it will be for the novelty as much as anything. P2PForums would like to thank warlock171 from CDFreaks.com for discovering this interesting little hack’.”

Nice one, JiMiThInG ; )

One Response to “Napster hack = free downloads”

Just think of it as VC paying for your record collection ;-)

  2. Reader's Write Says:

I was recently thinking about Napster’s service, and others like it. I think everyone knew that it would only be a (short!) matter of time before subscription services were hacked. Arguments about “rental” vs. “download” models aside, I have to say, subscription models can be great for independent artists. With playlists and tracks that aren’t bound by radio rotation requirements, listeners can dig deeper into less mainstream music to find cool new bands. As a musician, I think that’s pretty cool, though I have yet to subscribe to any music services..! :)

Why not just record using “line in” from Goldwave directly to MP3?

(Note: this app records ALL sounds you hear including system bleeps and blaps… get it?)

  5. Reader's Write Says:

    The only problem ….
REAL independents will not be allowed to play in the RIAA
subscription playground. That is what the fuss is really about.

The industry wants P2P to be the internet version of their
    payola radio setup.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Dude – Last update was in 2000?

    How good can this be?

  7. Reader's Write Says:

I still use a 1999 version of AudioGalaxy to rip from CD to Mp3.
Works fantastic and no sneaky restrictions or spyware.
    Sometimes older IS better.

  8. Reader's Write Says:

Has the sound quality of .wav files changed since 2000? If it will run on your OS it’s fine, if not, double your money back…

  9. Reader's Write Says:

Using the WinAmp Hack, you can run as many instances of WinAmp as your computer’s CPU allows. For example, one user using a fast Athlon CPU was able to run 32 instances of WinAmp on his PC.

There is a further plug-in to add to WinAmp which allows you to convert the Napster protected song files DIRECTLY into unprotected MP3s.

On a single PC, then, 32instances of WinAmp allows you to download and convert to MP3 11,500 songs a day from Napster.

This means you can get 161,000 songs during the free 14 day trial from Napster, which you can convert into 161,000 free MP3s that you can keep forever.

This means you can download all 1,000,000 songs in Napster’s library and convert them all into free MP3s in only 87 days. You need only a 3 month subscription to Napster to convert their entire library into free MP3s to keep forever.

If SEVEN college students collaborate (using SEVEN PCs), then within the 14 day free Napster trial, they can download and convert all 1,000,000 songs in Napster’s Library. Thus these SEVEN college students can have 1,000,000 free MP3s to keep forever.

These college students are then free to share all 1,000,000 songs with anyone else!

This hack is thus HUGE BIG GIGANTIC NEWS!

  10. Reader's Write Says:

Thats too time consuming, I;ve been using an older version of Virtuosa that converts licensed WMA’s to MP3, takes about 25 seconds per song….hehehe

  11. Reader's Write Says:

so does that mean after that napster will be free to you
