London Not-So-Free Press gagged

p2pnet view Freedom | P2P:-Check whats going on in Canada (Found it via wikileaks)”, says Apple pie in a Reader’s Write.

We couldn’t locate the Wikileaks ref, but in Saturday’s London Free Press we found this from editor-in-chief Paul Berton  >>>

Next week (we can’t say what day exactly), in a courthouse near here (we can’t say where exactly), a judge (we can’t say which one) will hear testimony from a person or persons (we can’t say whom) involved in a high-profile crime (we can’t say what) that occurred recently (we can’t say when exactly).

We can’t say because one or more parties to the case are trying to impose a “publication ban and sealing order,” which The London Free Press, Sun Media and QMI Agency are opposing, along with other news organizations.

Not only is there an attempt to put a publication ban on the proceedings next week, there is also an attempt to put a ban on writing about the attempt to put a ban on the proceedings next week.

So, for the moment at least, we can’t tell you anything, about anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Paul adds:

“It is almost inevitable in this case, at this particular time in history, that all the relevant information will ‘leak’ out of the courtroom within moments of it being heard and immediately arrive unedited on the Internet, for all to see, via Twitter, Facebook or an endless number of blogs and other modes of electronic informational transport, yet we won’t be able to publish it.”

Definitely stay tuned.

    ;)

We can forgive wikileaks this once for not realizing press freedoms and freedom of expression also don’t exist in Canada.

Not only does Ontario, Canada, have a London, we also have a Paris! But neither are as exciting as the more popular London UK or Paris France, but hey, we’re trying!

  4. Worthless commoner Says:

    Hi,

Is amaizing, but makes me wonder though if they know as in the London FP how come they dont just leak it and then deny it came from them?

Or was they desperate for a headline and somone said I know lets do one about nothing!

    Peace out!

  5. Reader's Write Says:

    @Worthless commoner

Who would they leak it to?

    Wikileaks doesn’t take “leaks” anymore.

Anyone else know a place to leak info “securely” and anonymously and who has a bunch of corporate lawyers like wikileaks has to protect you and the leak?

If so, I’d like to know.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

The problem with Wikileaks, and sites like it, is they distribute classified national security information to our enemies. The benefit of Wikileaks, and sites like it, is they publish government information that should NOT be keep from the people. The real problem these leak sites have is balancing aiding the enemy and keeping the public informed. That being said, when did criminal proceeding (not national security proceedings), occurring in a public court house (the public will be allowed to enter and witness the events), become off limits to publication? That sounds like a corporate/government cover up to me… And if this was really an issue of nation defense or other information (that big money and big government didn’t want exposed),,, the rest of the media would all over it.

  7. Worthless Commoner Says:

    Hi,

some good points there rw and rw, I suppose it poses the question who judges the judge?

If I was confident that it was honestly a case of national security that was being gagged then I personally would be happy for them to not tell me, however as has been seen in the past these gag orders indeed have been used for saving face or similar.

” The problem with Wikileaks, and sites like it, is they distribute classified national security information to our enemies. ”

Please link me to an example of such a happening. Sounds like fearmongering to me.

  9. Worthless Commoner Says:

    Hi,

“Please link me to an example of such a happening. Sounds like fearmongering to me”

Sorry if my irony was lost in translation but I agree with this 100%, if you allow a corrupt official to dictate what is national security i.e gov will shout this if it is seen to undermind the gov even if it is gov corruption that is in question.

Would say more however (your post is awaiting moderation)

  10. Reader's Write Says:

“Please link me to an example of such a happening. Sounds like fearmongering to me.”

It’s only fearmongering when its the national security issue??? If you are to retarded to watch what they post on Wikileaks then that is your problem and no one else… RW also said that there are benefits to Wikileaks too… Comment on the entire thought and stop cherry picking for political reasons…

  11. Reader's Write Says:

    “National Security”

China filters its’ internet and has telecom snitches in the name of “national security”

BTW, when is their next film coming out?

  12. Reader's Write Says:

” It’s only fearmongering when its the national security issue??? If you are to retarded to watch what they post on Wikileaks then that is your problem and no one else ”

So I take it that you don’t actually have a link to such an occurrence ? I kind of thought so. DIAF

  13. Reader's Write Says:

So I take it that you are defending a site you don’t monitor enough to know what is reported there yourself. Saying that you need a link to prove that wikileaks has published national security information is like demanding a link to prove that foxnews publishes biased political information. Inform yourself and you’d know.

  14. Reader's Write Says:

Since you are so uninformed that you need someone to do your own research for you.

Wikileaks posted edited and chopped up military footage that has been proved to be edited and chopped up for the purpose of defaming American soldiers and bolstering the moral of our enemies. As a matter of fact, its right on their front page again today. Read it and inform yourself before making stupid comments.

And for the retarded who can’t do their own research,,, would you like me to also post a link showing that foxnews publishes biased political information. Or is that a charge you’ll believe without evidence.

I strongly suggest you inform yourself before shooting off at the mouth.

  15. Voxleo Says:

How about we just get on with World peace and then there are no enemies to fear gaining knowledge of our super secret secrets. The more I think about this the dumber it sounds. There aren’t any real secrets are there? What could any nation possibly have hidden up their sleeve in this poker game that is the world? Is there really something to know that will change the balance of power in any way? I think we are all pretty full of ourselves if we think there is some leakable info that is going to do anything other than hurt the power associated with more than a few individuals in the grand scheme of things. The foundation of the nation itself probably doesn’t depend on protecting some tasty bits of intel that only the proper few are privy to,… although the foundation of someone’s empire of wealth just might. The love if money is truly the root of evil today.

  16. Reader's Write Says:

“The foundation of the nation itself probably doesn’t depend on protecting some tasty bits of intel”

The death of one single soldier caused by the illegal publication of classified national defense information is grounds for treason…

  17. Worthless Commoner Says:

    Hi,

In the past we have seen things like,

“The Lair of bin Laden” From http://www.edwardjayepstein.com/nether_fictoid3.htm which IMHO we was permitted to see for fearmongering as these mountain bunker complexes were never found hence, “By December 17, the last cave complex had been taken and their defenders overrun. No massive bunkers were found, only small outposts and a few minor training camps” From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Tora_Bora

However “With Mohamed’s torture established as a judicial fact, the judges queried what reason there could be to cover up the now-notorious “seven paragraphs”? This summary was removed from the original opinion when the government cried national security” From http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/libertycentral/2010/feb/10/torture-guantanamo-bay

So to reiterate a point from rw “Please link me to an example of such a happening. Sounds like fearmongering to me.” I think maybe giving some leway to the fact that he/you nor I know everything that happens when/how/why it happens but going on past trends governments will shout national security to save face and they will also release to us lies to get us hyped up for war.

And if Voxleo doesnt mind “How about we just get on with World peace ” for me this starts by removing the corrupt from the top who cannot hold their hands up and admit they are wrong when they are wrong they just shout national security.

I say again “I suppose it poses the question who judges the judge? ” we the people are supposed to be the ones in power and they (the politician) represent us. So please forgive people for not having the ever eluding facts to hand but branding us as retarded is not realy the way to move forward.
