Goodbye Apple. Hello Google, et al. Adobe.

p2pnet view P2P:- Apple’s Steve Jobs has a long, detailed open letter on why he’s not using Adobe Flash on the likes of the iPlod or iPhone. Or the iPad, of course.

Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch (right) has responded with a short and sharp blog on why he doesn’t care, saying, in effect, Adobe has its money on Google, Microsoft, Nokia “and others”.

The “primary issue at hand”, says Lynch, is Apple is “choosing to block Adobe’s widely used runtimes as well as a variety of technologies from other providers”.

He writes Adobe feels confident “that were Apple and Adobe to work together as we are with a number of other partners, we could provide a terrific experience with Flash on the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch”, going on >>>

However, as we posted last week, given the legal terms Apple has imposed on developers, we have already decided to shift our focus away from Apple devices for both Flash Player and AIR.

We are working to bring Flash Player and AIR to all the other major participants in the mobile ecosystem, including Google, RIM, Palm (soon to be HP), Microsoft, Nokia and others.

Lynch adds Adobe will deliver Flash Player 10.1 for Android smartphones as a public preview at Google I/O in May, followed by a general release in June.

“From that point on, an ever increasing number and variety of powerful, Flash-enabled devices will be arriving which we hope will provide a great landscape of choice”, he says.

  1. Marc Says:

I’ll believe it when I see Flash running on mobile devices with good battery life and performance. Flash can’t even run decently on a netbook; they seriously expect it to work on a phone???

  2. Reader's Write Says:

I hate apple stuff but I have to admit that Flash stuff is crap.

    No offense.

  3. Lions2010 Says:

I love most of apples stuff. But nothing against Linux at all.
As a blind person, I tried Ubuntu, just because they said It was accessible, so I wanted to see how accessible it was. Turns out, from what I saw, not half bad.
Anyway, I think flash is crap too. From an accessibility standpoint, from what I’ve seen over my last 10 years of using the various screen readers such as Windoweyes and Jaws For Windows, flash is not very accessible, if at all. Even if you don’t like apple at all, as of 2008 or so,you have to give it to them when it comes to accessibility. Just my 2 cents for what its worth.
    Love this site.
    High fives to you John.
