SunnComm’s ‘breakout’ year
p2pnet.net News:- In more CCP (corporate copy protection) news, SunnComm boss Peter Jacobs says, “2005 is shaping up to be a breakout year for our organization”.
This comes in the company’s announcement of its 5th annual shareholders’ meeting slated for April 29.
“2004 was the first time the world had seen a copy managed CD make it all the way to #1 on Billboard’s Top 200,” says Jacobs proudly.
“That #1 selling CD was copy controlled and enhanced by SunnComm’s MediaMax.”
Jacobs neglects, however, to finish the story – that the album, Velvet Revolver’s Contraband, was cracked virtually as soon as it was released.
As Iain Elder pointed out, “Everyone can beat DRM, and you don’t even need to be a hacker.
“If you have a personal CD player, and a line-feed cable (with the small jack plugs), then you can rip the CD analogally.
“Just connect one end of the line-feed to the headphone-out socket on your CD player and connect the other end to the line-in socket on your sound card.
“Play the CD, while recording using sound editing program. After each track is recorded, normalise the track volume, and then that’s basically it!
“Granted, the pain-in-the-ass factor is much higher, and can be prone to error (CD skipping etc), but mostly it works just fine.
“Nuts to DRM, Analog ownz! :p”
Meanwhile, Sunncomm has also scheduled it’s first ‘open house’ on February 25 to demonstrate its, “latest MediaMax technology to shareholders wishing to attend”
Said shareholders will be able to, “roam the halls and chat with employees”.

Definately at this time anyone can rip a cd. Then again in our system anyone can commit a crime. Sunncomm has never said it had the complete answer. However there are many other benefits from the Mediamax system now in place. The Labels are intelligent enough to understand this and Sunncomm has an ongoing technological program that keeps up to date with any new improvements.
Stay tuned Sunncomm is a winner.

You can’t prevent anyone to access a cd and rip it on their computer.
At most you can try to trick people into installing malware on their computer to stop themselves.
Even on windows you just need to disable cd autorun.
To do that in win98 put the following in a .reg file and double click it.
REGEDIT4
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
“CDRAutoRun”=dword:000000ff
“NoDriveTypeAutoRun”=dword:000000ff
So, unless you plan on using a cd that needs a new cd player to play it there’s no way it would work.
A new player wouldn’t go well much with custumers.

Benefits? WHAT !%$*#ING BENEFITS? I work for a band that is fighting with our label over this shit right now. We don’t want it. Our fans don’t want it either.—You can listen to our CD as long as you install this spyware—Bull$#!*.
Lot of good it does, Velvet’s tracks were all over Kazaa the day the album cam out.
The only ones benefiting from this shit is the shady sales people selling junk like this to the gullible record companies.

Besides being an idiot, I think you and your band are stupid and I hope all your cd”s both of them get ripped so you make nada. You seem to deserve less than nada.
