New iPod to sport colour screen?

p2pnet.net News:- Apparently nothing daunted by Apple’s suit against Think Secret publisher Nick Ciarelli for telling the world about the Mac mini, the rumour-zine is now quoting “highly reliable sources” as confirming the next iPod mini, “will gain a full-color active-matrix TFT screen while the form factor will remain largely unchanged.”

The screen will be able to display colours, “clearly and brightly regardless of ambient lighting, even outdoors in direct sunlight,” says senior editor Ryan Katz, and, “will be about the same size as the current iPod mini display and will sport a 176×132 resolution.”

With Sony’s PSP out there making large media waves, Apple doesn’t have any choice.

As we said a while back, “You knew it was coming, and now it’s here – the first of what will inevitably be a series of hand-helds that may well see Apple relegated to the back bench again, albeit it somewhat wealthier than the last time around.

“Unless, of course, Apple has deep and dark plans for iPod that none of its employees have leaked out, yet.”

We were talking about Sony’s PSP hand-held that’ll be taking game players to the movies starting April 29, and it seems Applers-in-the-know are still spreading the word about upcoming product releases.

“Seagate may quietly roll-out a 6GB version of its ST1 Series hard drive alongside the new iPod mini,” says Katz, going on:

“Seagate’s ST1 Series also offers another advantage over the current 4GB Hitachi drives being used in the iPod mini: the company’s RunOn technology ensures consistent music playback regardless of operating conditions.”

Pricing on the new iPod mini will remain the same at $249 and, “Expect the new iPod mini to be announced early next week, if not the following week at the latest,” adds the story.

Will we soon be seeing another Apple law suit launched against Think Secrets? Or have Steve & Co finally realized ‘leaks’ such as this make great, cost-free advance PR and will they therefore soon announce they’re dropping the suit against Ciarelli?

Stay tuned.

Haven’t they been called out on the fact that have leaked items on their own website on purpose then yanked it just to cause a stir? Seems like they already do it.

    excerpt from Register article….

“An excellent example of an Apple leak came in mid-September when details of the upcoming Jaguar update were ‘accidentally’ posted on its support pages and removed within hours – after everybody had time to read them. These leaks must reduce any claim for damages or retribution that may come from Apple.”
