Yahoo Japan joins music biz
p2pnet.net News:- Another major company has joined the line of hopefuls aiming to cash in on online music downloads.
So far, the only real activity is confined solely to the p2p networks, Big Music’s claims to the contrary notwithstanding, and now Yahoo Japan Corp says it’ll shortly have a pay-for Net-based music download service.
To be known as "Yahoo! Music Download," it’ll, “enable subscribers of the ‘Yahoo! Wallet’ settlement service to download songs from a pool of 73,000 pieces of music offered by 39 record firms,” the company is quoted as saying by Japan Today, which adds:
“The service will be provided in cooperation with Label Gate Co, a joint venture of 18 firms, mainly music labels, which offers its own Net-based download service under the Mora brand. Users will be allowed to listen to songs before placing a download order. Fees will range from 158 yen (almost $1.60) to 368 yen (almost $3.50) per song, it said.
