Cabir mobile worm invades US
p2pnet.net News:- The Cabir mobile worm is now in the wild in the US having apparently been identified in a technology gadgets store in Santa Monica, California, “when a passing techie spotted a telltale sign on the screen of a phone in the store,” says MSNBC.
It wasn’t exactly news having been first reported by F-Secure a week or so ago.
At the time, “This is not going to be the end of the world,” said company research director Mikko Hypponen.” Nor will it be. Unless you depend on your cellphone —– and Cabir gets into it to drain your batteries.
“Today we got a E-Mail from reader in South Africa, who said that he has received Cabir file on his phone,” says Jarno on the F-Secure blog, going on that to make the point that to be bugged, users more or less have to ask for it. As Jarno states, ” it is impossible to get infected by accident,” and:
” People have been told not to click unknown attachments in E-Mail for past 5 years, and still E-Mail worms are one of the most common malware type on PC systems. So it would be unrealistic to assume that average phone users would be any more cautious.
“As they say, curiosity killed the cat. So now we have 13 countries with Cabir sightings.”
With this in mind, Jarno suggests the 3-Li3 site’s Viruses for Symbian OS – the truth is worth a read.

“Kabir” was the supposed Palestinian owner of EarthStation 5. Since Arabic spellings are translated phonetics (think how many spellings there have been of the Libyan President) his name could just as easily have been Cabir.
