Self-destruct HP printer ink loads
p2pnet.net News:- Ever heard of ‘planned obsolescence’?
That’s when something is deliberately made to more or less self-destruct after a given period of time so you’ll be forced to buy a new whatever it is.
It seems HP may have been engaging in a little planned obsolescence.
A woman in the US is suing HP, claiming its ink jet cartridges are, “secretly programmed to expire on a certain date, in some cases rendering them useless before they are even installed in a printer,” says Reuters, going on:
“HP ink cartridges use a chip technology to sense when they are low on ink and advise the user to make a change. But, the suit claims, those chips also shut down the cartridges at a predetermined date regardless of whether they are empty.”
HP spokesmen were not, apparently, “immediately available to comment”.
