More items in Sudan 1 scare
p2pnet.net OT News:- Britain’s Food Standards Agency has today added 146 new items to its list of foods polluted by the industrial Sudan 1 dye normally used to colour products such as shoe wax and floor polishes.
It’s linked to cancer and has been banned for human consumption but, “Consumers are reminded that the risk is very small, that there is no risk of immediate illness but it is sensible not to eat affected products,” says the FSA, reiterating, “No groups, whether young, in hospital, elderly or pregnant are exposed to anything other than a very small risk.”
How does the Shakespearean quote go – Methinks he doth protest too much?
“Sudan I is a dye that should not be added to food and is banned in the UK and across the EU because it can contribute to an increased risk of cancer,” states the FSA.

It is quite clear that all food containing additives other than natural ones should carry a health warning, we should be allowed a clear choice, I for one do everything in my power to avoid any non-natural additives, this job should be made foolproof. It is quite unfair that consumers are not protected.
