ICANN At-Large groups
Six organizations have received ICANN ‘At-Large Structure’ certification, meaning they’re recognized as meeting, "ICANN’s criteria for involving individual Internet users at the local or issue level in ICANN activities and for promoting individuals’ understanding of, and participation in," their regions.
ICANN is short for Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers - a nonprofit organization that’s, "assumed the responsibility for IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract," as Webopedia puts it here.
The six are:
* Societa’ Internet (Region: Europe)
* Arab Knowledge Management Society (AKMS) (Region: Asia/Australia/Pacific)
* Alfa-Redi (Region: Latin America/Caribbean Islands)
* Förderverein Informationstechnik und Gesellschaft e.V (FITUG) (Region: Europe)
* Internet Society (ISOC) Luxembourg A.S.B.L. (Region: Europe)
* Internet Society Bulgaria (Region: Europe)
