MGM v Grokster press conference
p2pnet.net News:- Today, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) and Public Knowledge are hosting a press conference centering on briefs filed by defendants and friends-of-the-court in MGM v Grokster – the case that’ll literally define how much control the entertainment industry will be able to wield over you and the technology you use to watch and listen to music and movies, among other things.
MGM v Grokster will ask the US Supreme Court on March 29 to decide if Grokster and StreamCast, the makers p2p applications Grokster and Morpheus, are liable if users infringe copyrights.
Earlier hearings had already established that they’re not, but the answer didn’t suit Hollywood so it’s staging a last-ditch bid to have the previous rulings overturned.
The conference starts at 2:00 p.m. EST and journalists are invited to attend it at the offices of Public Knowledge, 1875 Conn. Ave, NW #650, Washington, DC, or to phone in via teleconference.
Confirmed attendees include:
- Fred von Lohmann, EFF, counsel for Streamcast
- StreamCast ceo Mike Weiss
- Grokster attorney Michael Page
- Gigi Sohn, president of Public Knowledge
- Mark Cooper, Consumer Federation of America
- Gary Shapiro, president of the Consumer Electronics Association
- Ed Black, president of Computer and Communications Industry Association
