Queen Elizabeth to knight Gates

p2pnet.net News:- Bill Gates, the world’s most successful monopolist, will tomorrow receive an honorary knighthood from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.

The award is for his, “outstanding contribution to enterprise,” says Reuters.

Gates will become a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire and, “Among the pomp and grandeur of the formal state rooms at the palace, Gates will kneel in front of the sovereign, who will gently tap him on the shoulder with a sword.”

But don’t worry, you guys over in Redmond. You won’t have to call him ‘Sir’ any more than you do already.

Only British and Commonwealth knights are addressed thus.

Something you think we should know? tips[at]p2pnet.net

With the amount of money that Bill has,he can buy the whole palaces of UK and name himself ‘king’:)

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Why not? Knighthoods mean dick-all now.

I can think better uses for that sword while she has him on his knees…

  4. Reader's Write Says:

For his contributions to enterprise? How about his philanthropy? Wouldn’t that be worthier?

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Too bad he doesn’t get a “Sir”
    “Sir Crashalot” comes to mind

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Makes me ashamed to be british…

and me – and notice he’s not being awarded for contributions to ‘free’ enterprise.

Philanthropy? If you put it in the context of how much money he has, it is said that it is the equivalent to the rest of us giving $2 per year to a charity.

If you look closely at where he is giving money it is often into areas of pharmaceutical research for which there will be patents. Then there is money to put “computers” (running what?) into schools?

Whether this is philanthropy or tax-deductible empire building is a topic worthy of debate. Wish I had the time to debate it, but I’m spending a fair chunk of my work day on advocacy work already.
