MGM v Grokster briefs: one site
p2pnet.net News:- Morpheus owner StreamCast Networks has turned a definite sow’s ear into something of a silk purse.
March 29 is the date set for the opening of the Supreme Court hearing where the entertainment industry will once again attempt to impose its will on the American public via the US legal system.
It’s already been twice unsuccessful in trying to convince panels of judges to rule the owners of p2p applications such as Morpheus should be held responsible for what users do with their (the companies’) software.
Now, the move studio and record label cartels are back again, this time dragging with them a cast of numerous ‘support’ organizations, many of them with little or no direct interest in the case.
However, just as many groups and individuals with a very definite involvement have filed friends-of-court briefs to back the p2p companies.
And StreamCast is making more than 50 submissions from both sides available from its site.
And, “if this is not an example of a substantial non-infringing use of technology being applied for a very important objective - making the vast amount of information outside of copyright and in the public domain available to anyone with access to a computer anywhere in the world at any time without choking the internet - then I don’t know what is,” says StreamCast ceo Mike Weiss.

does this mean we can sue M$ and other software developers for things people do with their software?

Why not?
If it wasn’t for Microsucks poor programming standards, we wouldn’t be susceptible to weekly virii which waste millions of dollars.

which they apparently plan on making money off of. I see it as a conflict of interest. Why fix the problems they have create for free (service packs etc) when they can sel you a virus remaoval tool?
