Court overturns $521m MS ruling
p2pnet.net News:- In 2003 a federal jury ordered Microsoft to pay Eolas Technologies and the University of California for $521 million for infringing on a patent.
Held by the U of C Regents and licensed to Chicago’s Eolas, it covers technology for embedding interactive elements into Web pages and Microsoft was ordered to pay the $521 million for using it in Internet Explorer.
But Microsoft appealed and, says The Street, federal court has now reversed the patent ruling against Microsoft.
Microsoft called it a,”clear victory not only for Microsoft, but for Internet users as well,” says the story.
