G20 protesters in danger from water cannons
p2pnet view P2P | Politics:- Toronto already looks like a third-world war zone, thanks to prime minister Stephen Harper’s G20 party plans.
High mesh fences, cops everywhere, secret service agents ‘interviewing’ people who might want to protest his obscene boondoggle.
He’s even spending our money on $300-per-session bed-bug sniffing dogs, a $2,000,000 fake lake, uprooting dangerous tree saplings.
Now protesters not only stand a chance of having their ear-drums ruptured with military grade sonic blasters, they could also be injured by powerful jets fired from what’s euphemistically called ‘water projection systems’.
Water cannons in other words. And nor is the term used lightly. The jets are easily powerful enough to literally blow people off their feet.
“The high pressure modern water cannons can achieve pressure of up to 30 bar which can result in broken bones”, the Wikipedia points out.
“The Integrated Security Unit has confirmed that the RCMP will be deploying water canons [sic] during the G8 summit in Huntsville, Ont., and the G20 summit in Toronto”, says the Canwest News Service. “It will assist public order units with crowd and riot control,” the story has ISU spokeswoman Jillian Van Acker stating.
“Research has shown that the water projection system causes less injury than other use of force options and it reduces the physical contact between police and members of the public.”
Less injury than other use of force?
Oh. That’s OK, then.
The weapons will be “mounted on trucks that can be driven to the edge of large groups of demonstrators”, says the National Post, adding, “The G8 starts this Friday, while the G20 takes place on Saturday and Sunday. More than 5,100 police officers are expected to be walking the streets of Toronto when foreign leaders arrive.”
Said p2pnet recently, “In the midst of the worst economic crisis of modern times, a primary topic to be discussed in the forthcoming G20 and G8 junkets slated for Toronto next month is:
“How to deal with the ‘recession’ which is driving companies out of business, causing tremendous global hardships, threatening the continuing existence of the European community, and ‘forcing’ large-scale cutbacks in essential services everywhere.”
Cost of the ’summit’?
MORE THAN ONE BILLION DOLLARS —-
—- for a bloated, three-day political mutual-admiration-fest that’ll achieve absolutely nothing except:
- Totally block already congested Toronto streets
- Provide mouth-watering opportunities for trouble-makers who’ll inevitably cause …
- … hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars in damage to properties in the area (with zero recompense for the injured, says the Toronto Star)
- Cost businesses even more millions in lost revenues — except those chosen to serve attendees, of course
- Seriously inconvenience local people
- Open doors for entrepreneurial criminals who’ll take advantage of the fact an estimated 10,000 police officers will serving and protecting 18 world ‘leaders’ you wouldn’t trust as far as you could throw them
The theme?
Recovery and New Beginnings.
Stay tuned.

(Cheers, RW)

Research also shows that when you LISTEN to people, the ones you represent, you don’t have huge protests and you don’t need incredible security/war-zone areas. It also shows that groups like the Black Bloc don’t show up when there is no reason to create havoc for the sake of havoc (OR because they are paid to by the very people who NEED that chaos to justify their planned erosion of civil liberties).

“Toronto already looks like a third-world war zone,”
Um, does that mean a war-torn developing country, or any hostile area during WW3?

@RW, please use passivized words that do not alarm the public or give a hint of truth. It’s an encampment to shelter the people.

“Recovery and New Beginnings.”
Recovery and new beginnings, huh? Well, if they want to have new beginnings, they should start by getting rid of corrupt politicians like people who would spend 1 billion dollars on nothing.
