FCC fines VoIP blocker $15K
p2pnet.net News:- North Carolina’s Madison River Communications has been fined $15,000 by the US Federal Communications Commission and ordered not to stop its customers from using VoIP (voice-over-Internet calling) Net phone services.
VoIP firm Vonage told the FCC a Madison River subsidiary had prevented customers from talking to each other online with Vonage hook-ups.
But, says Broadband Reports, “Blocking VoIP traffic entirely isn’t expected to be a real issue, it’s how incumbent carriers will treat competing VoIP traffic that will have many urging the FCC to pass new guidelines. “
advancedippipeline.com quotes Vonage ceo Jeff Citron as saying intentional blocking of VoIP traffic, “is more than just a competitive dirty trick – it’s an act of censorship against free speech.”

Personally, I’d rather they block Voip and allow unrestricted BitTorrent traffic.

Wow, that is a juvinile comment.
VoIP is a telephony standard. Without telephone, we wouldnt have the internet to begin with. Much less BT’s. So what technology is being squashed by the antique big bell phone system trying to keep out new more logical methods of communication.
And BT cant be blocked. Change ports. Most reputable trackers dont even work on the standard ports no more.
