The Jimi Hendrix experience
p2pnet.net News:- "Today I was downloading a Jimi Hendrix album, Electric Ladyland which was ripped by Darkside_RG," Dannybhoi tells p2pnet.
A Peerguardian user, he noticed something strange and interesting.
Read on >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have the latest PeerGuardian beta and it showed that it was blocking Sony Communication Network Corporation.
The actual log from Peerguardian is as follows:
03/09/2005 13:03:18; Sony Communication Network Corporation;
172.215.xxx.xxx:2945; 218.110.250.108:6881; TCP; Blocked
and
03/09/2005 13:08:59; Sony Communication Network
Corporation; 218.110.250.108:59393; 172.215.xxx.xxx:58000; TCP; Blocked
There was traffic in and out of the Azureus client program doing the download. I also have the safepeer plugin which maintains a similar role as Peerguardian
The safepeer plugin didn’t pick up this ip address at all. I then added the address to the safepeer range of ip addresses which did then block – now and then.
What I did find interesting was that the IP address being blocked changed the port in which it used to gain access several times.
Here are the log entries:
03/09/2005 15:01:30; Sony Communication Network
Corporation; 218.110.250.108:55728;
172.215.xxx.xxx:58000; TCP; Blocked
03/09/2005 15:10:43; Sony Communication Network
Corporation; 218.110.250.108:56830;
172.215.xxx.xxx:58000; TCP; Blocked
03/09/2005 15:19:44; Sony Communication Network
Corporation; 218.110.250.108:57848;
172.215.xxx.xxx:58000; TCP; Blocked
03/09/2005 15:39:37; Sony Communication Network
Corporation; 218.110.250.108:59908;
172.215.xxx.xxx:58000; TCP; Blocked
I found it very interesting that there was an outgoing connection – myself downloading from a seed (there were 12 connected) and an incoming connection.
Is there a possibility of downloading from seeds to gain IP addresses?
Sony never released this album. It was an MCA album.
Could it perhaps be that the RIAA is spying on bittorrent downloads?
Peerguardian 2 and Protowall are contentious issues, with Phrostbyte having waded into the debate on Slyck (when PG2 was released), with the question of the effectiveness.
The answer really is: Peerguardian 2 does have some use and should be part of a security package for anyone who uses the internet to download stuff.
With all the lawsuits going on in the States and the UK, I think p2p network users should be very wary. Downloading has its risks.
I can’t say for sure that the RIAA was monitoring the download. For all we know, it could be someone in the Sony IT department using his company’s bandwidth to download!
But it’s worth a mention.

“Could it perhaps be that the RIAA is spying on bittorrent downloads?”
Yes, I’m guessing that the person who posted this is a noobie.
I am always getting hit by Sony Corporation and various other companies. It is totally possible that they are monitoring files.
I usually get over 30,000 blolcks per day so these companies are just some. Here is just 2 that are in reference to the post.
Connection Rejected: 192.6.76.74 – Hewlett-Packard Company (03-09-2005 @ 17:28:53)
Connection Rejected: 61.64.182.192 – Sony Network Taiwan Limited (03-09-2005 @ 17:35:29)

Is the Riaa monitoring you guys????? With all the lawsuits flying around tell me WHAT was your first clue???????

That’s funny. Classing ppl as ‘you guys’ when in fact they’re monitoring everyone on the net as if everyone were criminals.. Your instant messenger communications, logged. Your email, logged. Your browsing habits, logged.
Anyone not using WASTE as their instant messenger/file transfer program, with their ‘trusted’ friends are not just being monitored but transparently tracked.
The RIAA/MPAA actions are only the tip on the iceberg. Soon after all these cases are won against p2p users and true p2p’ers go underground instead of using publicly visible programs….and are virtually untraceable…. then we’ll all see a shift from this music/movie crap to being sued for linking images off other websites or using a script written by some unknown site admin on your company website or being sued for whatever else they can think of IP related… This copyright battle is only the beginning… it’s only going to get worse. Brace yourselves.
Just my 10 cents.

i had gotten a letter from my internet provider saying they had gotten complaints from two different companies that i was using and/or sharing copyrighted materials and telling me to stop right away or i would get sued and so i started getting a little more careful and used peerguardian. i saw sony communications pop up several times and got suspicious.. also time warner telecom bothered me. i tried to look it up and here i am. below is a link to a screenshot i took.

At this time I recommend you all arm yourself with peerguardian!
They are now posting a server on hotline. Asking people to upload and leave a description of their uploads in a text file. This sounds pretty phoney to me. If you are interested in hotline check out my site at http://hotlinerocks.com. I also run the most popular hotline tracker (supertracker.kicks-ass.org) with peerguardian. I will keep out any blocked servers and be sure all my users are notified upon listing the tracker!
Not to far back they did a sting on a kdx server
A U.S. University was recently hit with a cease and decist order by the RIAA and Sony. Students in the school’s computer labs were using KDX, and sharing with a public server on KDX trackers. Who was running the public server? The RIAA.
The Internet Protocol addresses (i.p.’s) were sourced back to the students who were using the University Computer Lab for sharing music: uploading and downloading with a public KDX server.
The news was immediately hushed up by the University… this information has leaked out through an employee who works at the University (which will remain unnamed to protect the source of this information). To that person, thank you. This is scary and unfortunate news, but news that is welcome to know about.
All admins of KDX servers who are on a public tracker are encouraged to remove their server from any KDX tracker. Permanently.
the source, a friend of mine who teaches at that school
the news never hit the media in any way
If you make this into stories please link back to my site @ http://hotlinerocks.com

I just recently had them trying to access my computer even when I wasn’t using Utorrent. It makes me wonder. I went into Peer Guardian 2 and noticed that EVERY time they tried to access the computer, it was from a different address…and then SafeNet Started showing up and I hadn’t seen them for awhile on the Peer Guardian. I don’t like this one bit, so I’m stopping using Utorrent, but keeping Peer Guardian. I sure as heck don’t want someone spying on my computer.
