LimeWire – squeaky clean!

p2pnet.net News:- Spyware expert Ben Edelman analysed the five leading commercial file-sharing applications on Download.com (LimeWire, iMesh, Morpheus, eDonkey and Kazaa) and found only one of them comes completely without bundled software.

And that’s LimeWire.

“Not only did LimeWire not include bundled software, but in my testing it also did not show any advertisements beyond promotions for the paid version of LimeWire” Edelman says on his web page.

He also observes that an internal document from Kazaa’s cto Phil Morle reveals many of Kazaa employees won’t install Kazaa software.

LimeWire coo Greg Bildson notes, quite correctly, “Users don’t want adware or spyware sneaking in with a file-sharing program.

“LimeWire is pure file-sharing technology with no spyware and no adware, and we’ve seen our user base grow steadily because of it.”

It is Bearshare’s official no-spyware/no-adware/no-banner release.

    What about Shareaza?

Unlike LimeWire and Bearshare, there has NEVER been any spyware or adware in Shareaza. Shareaza doesn’t even advertise any paid-for versions, because there aren’t any – all the hundreds of features provided by Shareaza are completely free.

I’m not trying to start a flame war so I hope no-one else feels the need to.

As long as you can find it where it is hidden away. :-)

  4. Reader's Write Says:

If only Shareaza didn’t overload its network with too much UDP and query traffic.
