CherryOS released. Again.

p2pnet.news :- The CherryOS, a Mac emulator for Windows PCs from Hawaii’s Maui X-Stream, won the not-coveted Number Two slot in Wired magazine’s 2004 Vaporware Top Ten.

Now, "Maui X-Stream has re-released its controversial CherryOS emulator but the software still appears to be a rip-off of an open-source software project, according to experts," says Wired News.

"Maui X-Stream, a Hawaii-based software company that sells streaming video products, re-released the $50 CherryOS on Tuesday. The software emulates a G4 processor, allowing Windows XP machines to run Apple Computer’s OS X operating system."

Initial reports from users show problems, says the Mac Observer, "but many are reporting surprising performance".

It also quotes company president Jim Kartes as saying, " "There has been a lot of misinformation about this product since word first came out back in October of last year. Everything from skepticism it even existed to doubt it would ever be released. I think we have proven those skeptics wrong."

    See http://www.h80571.serverkompetenz.net/comments.php?news_id=159

Most think its a copy especially as the NVRAM file is byte for byte identical copy.

They use stolen code. As a lot of ripoff products do. In concept, it’s not too different from an article a few rows down about ’scam’ sites offering to sell software that’s available for free. Why help promote them with a feature article if the central focus is not about this violation?

Anyway, Darwin might be the ideal software for running Mac applications on PC, since it is the core of the Mac OSX operating system (BSD based) ported to run on x86, so there’s not the huge slowdown that you get with any emulator .

But WTH. This is not even about any P2P-related material anyway.

    nonetheless, still rather interesting.
