Apple ‘distraught’ over iPod copy

p2pnet.net News:- Apple is furious that an iPod Shuffle imitator had the temerity to open a stall at at the CeBit technology show in Germany where Steve & Co are also showing off the original.

LuxPro, the Taiwanese maker of an iPod Shuffle clone, refused to remove its look-alike mp3 player from its stall, and Apple lawyers are weighing their options, says MacDailyNews.

Luxpro took the Mac and PC compatible player down on Friday, only to bring it back out on Saturday, leading to what`s been described as a heated exchange of words with a “visibly distraught Apple product manager,” says the story.

One might call Luxpro’s Super Shuffle an ehanced version of Apple`s Shuffle given that it has an FM tuner, voice recorder and support for mp3, .WAV, and wma rather than merely AAC.

And like the Apple player, it comes in 512MB and 1GB.

Something you think we should know? tips[at]p2pnet.net

    Mnnnn I know i am being evil…
but I would buy one =)

  2. Reader's Write Says:

I would buy one also =) Apple needs some sweet lovely competition in its court.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Boo hoo Apple… It’s called COMPETITION. Unless you want to get all Microsoft and sue the heck out of anyone who makes products who compete with yours, get used to it. I love all my Macs, love my iPod, but a lot of people I know can’t afford them, and maybe some real competition will bring the price down on Apple’s products.

I’m sorry, but a $499 Mac Mini is a step in the right direction, but still a hard sell when you can get a Dell with keyboard, monitor and mouse for $399. Same goes for the shuffle. $99 is a great price point sure, but a Playstation 2 costs $129.00 and you can get DVD players for $60 that are pretty decent quality. When Mac has an eMac style all in one computer that is $499 and an iPod that is $49. Then I think we will see a mass Exodus from PC to Mac. But they had better strike before the Intel 64/Longorn duo hits the market, or this “day in the sun” for Apple will once again be eclipsed by the WinTel syndicate.

i’m sick of ipod sick of itunes sick of everything apple

“competition” would be a more fair term to use if this looked at least somewhat different than the apple version. This seems as if it’s the exact same product. Competition is very nice, but this is too much of a rip-off on apple.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

That the “shuffle” is so popular that a company would make a knock off SHOULD make Apple happy. Maybe it does behind closed doors, but publicly they have to defend the “APPLE IMAGE”. After all, that’s really all they have.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

hahaha anyone know where to buy one, hate apple so i would buy one just to piss em off!

  8. Reader's Write Says:

    Thi is abhorent.

While i doubt Apple will suffer too much at the hand of this ripoff, the fact remains that it is a ripoff, not just ‘competition’.

Imagine p2pnet.org, same header, same stories – just with more original content, fewer spelling errors – running simultaneously to this site.

Is that competition, or just an unfortunate hackjob?

WMA? FM? Sound like unreliable, mid-quality and dying formats (respectively).

  9. Reader's Write Says:

I would buy one just to make a personal statement against the evil that Apple has become … :)

  10. Reader's Write Says:

    MP3 Jerkoff!

  11. Reader's Write Says:

I have to admit that Jon lets some bad typos through but his content is original unlike Apple’s that is mostly ripped off from other people and re-packaged.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

Ok, let me get this right, they go out and seriously erode freedom of the press by litigating against bloggers for hyping their product for them, but they “weigh their options” when a company deliberately and obviously infringes upon their patents.

    Nice.. *cough*hypocrites*cough*

Note: this comment comes from an ardent mac user. look out apple, lest you become like the RIAA toward your customers.

I suggest you do your research pal.

Apple invented most of the standards microsoft and the pc world try to claim as their own “innovations” several years later, such as airport wireles, etc. etc.

USB2 vs firewire reminds me of this super shuffle vs ipod shuffle.

usb2 is a cheap and crappy version of firewire, and it’s speeds halve with every new connection to ports along the same bus, where firewire speeds remain constant, and even the hardware is more solidly connected.
(and guess who invented firewire.. oh it’s that “unoriginal” apple you so hate)

  14. Reader's Write Says:

Apple invented AirPort Wireless, their own product? WoW. Shocking.

You weren’t trying to imply that Apple invented WiFi, you dishonest little Apple fanboy?

802.11 is an IEEE standard, not an Apple standard.

  15. Reader's Write Says:

I don’t care. I think this is just too damned funny.

I hope they can keep selling them despite Apple.

  16. Reader's Write Says:

theirs is not competition, its theft

  17. Reader's Write Says:

sigh, why do 12 year olds have access to the internet?

  18. Reader's Write Says:

thats ok, we’re sick of your ass!

  19. Reader's Write Says:

and it’ll break in 3 months and they’ll never honor the warranty and your stuck, sucker!

  20. Reader's Write Says:

you need to do your homework if you think Apple hasn’t blazed some trails for the PC industry. Arguing which platform is better is SO 20th century! I use 6…how about you?

  21. Reader's Write Says:

not a chance in hell! all dem nice republican lawyers will see to that!

  22. Reader's Write Says:

An ardent Mac User who is totally fucking clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that comes from a Mac user who started with a Lisa (its in storage of course) and uses a dual G5 every day. YOU need to read all of the legal briefs and filings if you think this whole thing is about Apple trying to stop bloggers. Bloggers have nothing to do with it. Its about people stealing trade secrets and sharing them in public, thereby violating their NDA which IS illegal!

  23. Reader's Write Says:

This is not about protection of free speech. In fact, the judge who ruled on this said that’s a completely different matter. This was a subpoena to release the names of people who broke their Non Disclosure Agreements at Apple and released trade secrets. The First Amendment does not protect against theft and breaking of contracts. Is everyone on this board daft?
