This is not about protection of free speech. In fact, the judge who ruled on this said that’s a completely different matter. This was a subpoena to release the names of people who broke their Non Disclosure Agreements at Apple and released trade secrets. The First Amendment does not protect against theft and breaking of contracts. Is everyone on this board daft?

An ardent Mac User who is totally fucking clueless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And that comes from a Mac user who started with a Lisa (its in storage of course) and uses a dual G5 every day. YOU need to read all of the legal briefs and filings if you think this whole thing is about Apple trying to stop bloggers. Bloggers have nothing to do with it. Its about people stealing trade secrets and sharing them in public, thereby violating their NDA which IS illegal!

802.11 is an IEEE standard, not an Apple standard.

I suggest you do your research pal.

Apple invented most of the standards microsoft and the pc world try to claim as their own “innovations” several years later, such as airport wireles, etc. etc.

USB2 vs firewire reminds me of this super shuffle vs ipod shuffle.

usb2 is a cheap and crappy version of firewire, and it’s speeds halve with every new connection to ports along the same bus, where firewire speeds remain constant, and even the hardware is more solidly connected.
(and guess who invented firewire.. oh it’s that “unoriginal” apple you so hate)

Ok, let me get this right, they go out and seriously erode freedom of the press by litigating against bloggers for hyping their product for them, but they “weigh their options” when a company deliberately and obviously infringes upon their patents.

Thi is abhorent.

While i doubt Apple will suffer too much at the hand of this ripoff, the fact remains that it is a ripoff, not just ‘competition’.

Imagine p2pnet.org, same header, same stories – just with more original content, fewer spelling errors – running simultaneously to this site.

Is that competition, or just an unfortunate hackjob?

That the “shuffle” is so popular that a company would make a knock off SHOULD make Apple happy. Maybe it does behind closed doors, but publicly they have to defend the “APPLE IMAGE”. After all, that’s really all they have.

“competition” would be a more fair term to use if this looked at least somewhat different than the apple version. This seems as if it’s the exact same product. Competition is very nice, but this is too much of a rip-off on apple.
