Your concerns are clearly not about GPS.

The only signals sent in GPS are sent by satellite.
There is no ability to send signals FROM receivers in stadard GPS.

Watch out for RFID or radio broadcasts then, not GPS.

oh, i did want to say that i know the point of tom's networking site's article, and building the "rifle", is to show just how unsafe and insecure bluetooth is. and if anyone builds one and attempts to use it on the general public - for any reason - i feel they will have a lot of legal troubles when they're caught - if they aren't killed by a SWAT team first.

a quote from the article: "Bluetooth is wide open and most people have no idea what can be done to their devices."

'nuff said. ;)

i'm against anything that intrudes on my privacy. i'm against the ECHELON project. i don't want my locations and activities being monitored by anyone or anything. i don't want my fridge to talk to my pc or telephone, and then order milk for me when i'm not home. i don't want satellites tracking me or recording my conversations or sms messages. i don't want to be microchipped "for safety reasons" against terrorism. i don't want my personal life to be sent to unknowns. i don't want biometric info on my passport or driver's license which will track my every movement. all of these things are/will be possible with GPS.

anyway, i did say not to get me started on it. LOL! ;) if jon prints a story regarding pros and/or cons of GPS at some point, if it's relative, i might post a comment about it. :)

"And don't get me started on GPS! LOL! That's another unneeded, intrusive piece of garbage."

If your talking about "Global Positioning System", then what's wrong with it?

The satellites are the ones sending the signals containing the position and time the signals are sent.

The receiver receives a number of signals simultaneously and computes it's own position with this data.
No signal is ever sent anywhere by the basic GPS receiver.

About the only problem with GPS is when you don't receive 3 or 4 signals.

it's my comment. you don't have to agree with it. i don't care. i'm not getting into a long discussion with you here on the "pros" and CON(JOBS) of bluetooth. i don't believe this is the proper place for that sort of thing.

it's my comment, and it's my right to comment openly on things i know something about.

here are a few noteworthy examples.

"Why Bluetooth Bites" Part 1 - http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1759,1499745,00.asp

and Part 2:

http://techupdate.zdnet.com/techupdate/stories/main/0,14179,2913845,00.html

you can google yourself for more fun facts about how "great" bluetooth is. i'm not your private encyclopedia.

as far as the technicians i personally know who despise bluetooth - as well as anything made by Apple/Mac, i don't have their permission to attribute quotes from them in public forums. they do have to make money, you know. but they discourage use of bluetooth and apple tech as a general rule, and don't install any unless a client insists on it.

i'm not a blogger. i resent being referred to as one. personal blogs are stupid things. i don't have one. never will. but if you insist on thinking i am one, then i also should have the right to protect the identity of my personal sources. i don't work for apple or IBM, so they can't fire me for my comments.

who are you, "anonymous coward"? (as you're called when you don't log in.) ;)

"It's been known for years that Bluetooth is one of the worst inventions ever. " can you reference sources for this statement?

bloggers without sources is what degrades journalistic integrity
