Canadian jets bounce Russian bombers
p2pnet view P2P:- In a dramatic Top Gun-like confrontation, two Canadian jet fighters may have narrowly forestalled a military clash between Canada and Russia.
They intercepted a pair of Bears — TU-95 long range bombers (right) — about 463 km east of Goose Bay, says QMI.
By an amazing coincidence, the news comes fast on the heels of claims by prime minister Stephen Harper and defense minister Peter MacKay that it’s essential for Canada to spend $16 billion on new fighters.
Many Canadians had been wondering what the aircraft would be used to defend us against.
Now they know.
The Bear is “capable of carrying nuclear weapons and may have been loaded with warheads on this trip”, says the story.
QMI is short for Quebecor Media Inc, a subsidiary of Quebecor Inc.
Kory Teneycke, Harper’s ex-chief mouthperson, was recently named vice-president of business development at QMI, said p2pnet.
In another amazing coincidence, Teneycke is ” spearheading a bid” by Quebecor to “set up a Fox News-style TV station in Canada with an unabashedly right-of-centre perspective”, said the Globe and Mail.
It’s already being dubbed Harper TV, we noted.
Stay tuned for more genuine news on Canada’s desperate need for new jet fighters?

I’m glad you picked up on the recent QMI reporting of the past week. I didn’t mention it earlier, but i have noticed it all week. QMI has brought up their reporting to rhetoric level. They have started commissioning “QMI polls” on what Canadians think.
All week they have been reporting rhetoric and slant against Cuba followed by how outraged “all Canadians” are against “communist Cuba” (they played the communist card), which is farthest from the truth. Now this.
It really seems to me QMI is now the American Media of Canada injecting American influence, “fear factor”, and “security theater” into the news.
Glad you picked up on it. I thought I was alone. I see I’m not.
Their new news channel is sure to fill the minds of kids with junk.

You are not suggesting this is a PUT UP JOB BY HARPER ! are you?

There were many instance of the Russian testing the NORAD surveillance. I don’t think the Russian care much about Canada, but they need to go thru us to get to the US. At least, in the shortest way. So for their own knowledge, they want to know how we take to react. They also want to know how they can get away with. And this is not a new thing, it been going on for a lot longer than we might know.
And that’s one of the reason why we need a top shape Air Force.

Are you sure that Canada is not also threaten by extraterrestrial too by chance?
propaganda, propaganda!
July 30th, 2010 at 1:35 pm
@RW above,
Did you read that QMI story?
I ask this because of your comment and because QMI basically said the Klingons have passed into the neutral zone. Re-read it and you will see this
Propagation of rhetoric is high on the list of QMI it appears.

Did Canada still stuck in the 1960?
The cold war is over!
Helllllllooooooo!
Stop this non-sense and get Ben-laden instead.

Suckers, Canada does not consider USA as a threat in its threat model.
Guess who they will conquer when they run out of food?
July 30th, 2010 at 3:29 pm
Hate to say it, but someone should tell Russia that the cold war is indeed over. This testing of response (which is indeed what it is) has been going on since the 60’s and while it may have dropped off public hysteria, it is still ongoing. We (Canadians) sure as hell do not send the bears over here. Note en passant that the great circle route taken by the bears (usually en route to / from Cuba) conveniently passes over Canadian territory and would not really be an issue if it was planned. That they ignore this is telling.
I do agree that the headlines given are a, shall we say, little “sensationalist” and probably add to the image problem of the perceived treat and was probably injected for PR purposes. It unfortunately misfire. Much better would have been an article indication what is really going on and that, more than the chicken little published, would have been much better received by the public.
If anyone think that the world out there is all honky dory and kissy kissy may be in for a rude awakening if they ever travel out of this country.
Hope people are noting how the Russian machine is being rebuild, old ethos are coming back and power is again massing in the few out there. 25 years is really a short time to change an entire population beliefs, especially when they struggle on a daily basis.

Russia denies trying to enter Canadian airspace
http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Politics/2010/07/30/14881966.html
“The Russian flights were in international air space,” said Sergei Khudyov a press attache at the Russian embassy in Ottawa. “Nothing happened. The Canadian military are well aware of the flights.”
…
“I’m somewhat skeptical f the way the Conservatives are using this to justify their sole-source contract,” said Liberal defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh.
…
New Democrat Dennis Bevington who represents the western Arctic says he’s been told the Russians often file flight plans with the Americans. “I’d like to know if the Americans knew, if NORAD knew,” Bevington said.

Seems to me we are seeing Harper TV in action this past week.

Ahhhh more lies from the military-industrial-corporate media crony-system. Anyone who doesn’t see this as obvious bullshit is a goddamn moron or an outright shill. At least MOST P2Pnet readers have an IQ above room temperature and can see this for what it is.
The contracts for all these new planes are going to make certain people very very rich. Those same people are NOT above using crony-connections to influence the general public and seal the deal.
Anyone who trusts the corporate media organizations is a fucking idiot, it’s that simple.

Woot my IQ is 25. Mensa here i come!
Can someone from the US military please release the flight plans given to you by Russia to wikileaks please? Thanks in advance.

The thing is, people, you wont see this kind of commentary anywhere except sites like this and they are few and far between.
It is not in the interests of the lamescream media to point out this kind of thing. The Powers have a way of dealing with those who stray off the pre-defined tracks.
Does this kind of story have any effect? It has 482 views so far. That is not many.

^^ So don’t bother, then?
Cheers!

Subject: Ignatieff Liberals Embarrassed by Russian Bomber Flights Over Arctic
Mere days ago Michael Ignatieff pledged to cancel the new fighter jets the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces urgently need.
Embarrassingly for him, Russian bomber flights over the Arctic — just two days ago — underscore why our men and women in uniform need modern equipment to do their jobs.

Canadian jets repelled Russian bombers: MacKay
http://winnipeg.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20100730/jets-intercepted-100730/20100730/?hub=WinnipegHome
… The Conservatives have said a competitive bidding process was unnecessary as the F-35 is the only plane that meets Canada’s needs.
According to Margolis, however, protecting Canada’s sovereignty in the Far North would require new long-range fighter jets instead of the F-35, “which was not at all designed for this role.”

You, Jon Newton, are a dastardly Communist swine who should be hauled before the House and horse-whipped!!!
Canada needs these jet aircraft to defend our shores from not only the Americans and Russians, but the Chinee and Hindus!
I would challenge you to a duel, Sir, but I know you would refuse, being the craven coward that you are!

Look above ^^^ to the comment by “Joe Blow” to understand how the elite politicos and their private-sector pals get away with stealing from the moronic taxpayers in broad daylight. With 95% of the population trapped in the non-thinking world of TV show one-liners is it any wonder?
The stupidity and naivety of the Canadian public is at an all-time high. Fucking sad.

“At least MOST P2Pnet readers have an IQ above room temperature ”
It doesn’t make a difference what temperature a room is, it’s always room temperature. Hey, did you know there is an element that rhymes with what you are? It has a melting point of 2300 °C. :-p
Make no mistake, Canada and Russia are going to butt heads more often in the future over sovereignty. As well, anyone who thinks Russia simply ceased to be a threat when the cold war “ended” is a fool. This all has nothing to do with America. The Arctic is warming up and the result is open waterways more days of the year. As a result our northern waters are being used for cargo transport much more than it used to be. What did you all think would happen when the ice that has always acted as a natural border between our two countries vanishes? Russia has said on record exactly how they feel about their sovereignty and borders, leaving me with an ominous impression that we definitely shouldn’t sit around doing nothing. Don’t get me wrong though. I hate Harper and can’t wait to see him go. He was a HUGE mistake. As much as it pains me to say it, he might actually be on the right track in this particular instance however.

@ Anonymous, eh?:
So the answer is to get ready for what would inevitably be the Last World War?
But then again, with Harper at the helm and McKay trying to stay relevant …

@ Jon:
Never “misunderstimate” the power of stupid.
Personally I don’t think WWIII will happen any time soon, if at all. I do not discount the possibility out of hand either though given our nature, especially given the attitudes of certain countries whom arrogantly think they are the “leaders of the free world”. Anyways my point was that there are already tensions between Russia and Canada over sovereign rights due to the common border we share, a border that both of us are keenly interested in thanks not only to transport, but also energy concerns. There is a lot of money locked up in the Arctic. The average joe doesn’t seem to realize that the bulk of Russia is north of Canada, not east and west. A lot of people also think that the so called collapse of the Soviet Union equates to Russia being a non-power which is foolish. I’m not surprised at all that they would be interested in pushing us to see what kind of reaction they’ll get.
