Metallica and Beatallica
p2pnet.net News:- In a genuinely intriguing development, it seems Milwaukee-based parody band Beatallica may soon be back online – and it’s all down to mp3 crusher Lars Ulrich.
The band’s Beatles take-offs such as Sgt. Hetfield’s Motorbreath Pub Band and A Garage Dayz Nite upset Sony the Pure.
So it closed band-site down.
The band approached Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich, says Xeni Jardin on boing boing, going on:
“Five years ago, he stood on the steps of Napster, Inc., hauling boxes full of 300,000 names: all people he said were using Napster to ‘steal’ Metallica tunes. But things have changed. That debate was about who profited from Metallica’s music, he says, and this one is about creative rights at the heart of rock and roll itself.
“Ulrich says he believes that cover bands, mash-ups, and the right to re-interpret art on the internet are things worth fighting for.”
And why not, indeed?
Napster creator Shawn Fanning is now marketing his latest application to the very people who brought Napster crashing down, and Wayne Rosso of Grokster and Blubster fame is now using Fanning’s Snocap for his Mashboxx p2p program, which is being picked up by Big Music cartel members.
In the meanwhile, Sony may be re-thinking the matter, says Jardin.

Interesting to see his views on it all if he himself was to do a cover album. I’m sure the asshole would be flaming at the gills, and would bounce back to his old money hungry self.
