Novell, IBM and SSH for Linux

p2pnet.net News:- Novell’s SUSE says it plans to give copies of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and documentation to independent software houses building software on the SUSE distribution of Linux, while IBM will open up nine IBM Innovation Centers in North America, Europe and Asia.

The centers will enable products to be certified quickly for the SUSE Linux on IBM hardware and software, says PC Pro, adding:

“IBM says its Linux division has experienced double digit growth last year and last month announced it was to pour $100mn over the next three years into that strategy. Its interest in Linux has long been apparent though: in 2001 it promised to invest $1bn, with a further $3bn to follow. It also helped out Novell with $50mn when it bought second-placed Linux distro SUSE and donated 500 patents to the open source community.”

‘Mission-critical IT infrastructure’
Meanwhile, SSH Communications Security Corp, the original developer of the Secure Shell protocol, has joined Novell’s Technology Partner Program and says its SSH Tectia now supports Novell’s SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 running on all IBM eServer platforms.

“The new version of the SSH Tectia solution will provide users running SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 with robust, comprehensive enterprise security, including secure system administration, secure application connectivity, and secure file transfer functionality,” it promises.

"Linux enterprise servers are fast becoming part of mission-critical IT infrastructure and an ideal opportunity for large enterprises, financial institutions, and government agencies to benefit from SSH Tectia’s FIPS certified enterprise-class managed security solution, " says ceo Arto.

The new version of the SSH Tectia solution will be generally available in this month with pricing based on the number and type of applications supported and the number of servers and clients.
