Cigarette smoke gets in your hair …
p2pnet view P2P:- “The smoke gets in my hair, my clothes, and overnight I take on the smell of tobacco although I am one of those Cuban adults who has never smoked”, writes Yoani Sánchez in her Generation Y blog.
A man at the next table has smoked a “pack and a half of Hollywoods in the short time he’s been here, using an empty beer bottle as an ashtray|, she says, continuing >>>
On the wall there is a sign showing a cigarette with a red line through it; the white background of the poster is stained with nicotine. There is no remedy, I’m a passive smoker even though my country adopted a decree in 2005 that should protect my lungs in.
I passed unscathed through that first “drag” — shared while sitting in a circle — that kids try to prove how grown up they are. Thirty-two percent of my compatriots, however, ended up hooked from this youthful prank, and today spend a good part of their personal resources on Criollos, Populares, or H. Upmanns. This is one of the highest smoking rates in the region, perhaps comparable to the high levels of alcoholism, although the latter is not officially declared. Though half the homes on the Island are exposed to smoke, in our house we have an ex-smoker, a teenager who doesn’t seem interested yet, and this humble servant who used to dunk the packets in water to discourage her father from the vice.
The resolution to protect those who don’t smoke is strict and very modern, but in practice it only worked for a couple of weeks. I don’t know anyone who has been fined for violating the rule against smoking in public places or on public transport, and you can still see people selling different brands of cigarettes close to elementary and secondary schools.
Notwithstanding my abstinence, a couple months ago I was diagnosed with emphysema and the doctor gave me a wink while saying, “You smoke, right?” I feel like buying myself a dozen of the strongest cigars, taking long drags, and blowing the smoke on the damp paper of a law that is not complied with, or on those who have ensured that these regulations aren’t worth the paper they’re written on.
“But I don’t know”, Yoani says.
“I suspect that if I did I would received one of the few fines imposed in the last five years.”

Does the area where she live have a lot of traffic? Industry? I doubt she got emphysema from just second hand cigarette smoke.

Being a non-smoker, and never being exposed to secondhand smoke, are not guarantees of never acquiring health issues that are commonly associated with smoking. It sucks, but it happens. Also, the health risks associated with prolonged cigarette smoking are not correlated to cigar smoking. The average life expectancy of cigar smokers (3-5 cigars per days) is virtually identical to non-smokers, where the difference is very noticeable for cigarette smokers.
Cigarette tobacco is highly processed and contains hundreds of assorted chemicals. Cigar tobacco is not artificially processed and the chemicals in cigar smoke are numbered in the single digits.
And before I get blasted…. I don’t smoke and have no personal agenda to push.

” Does the area where she live have a lot of traffic? Industry? I doubt she got emphysema from just second hand cigarette smoke. ”
Exactly.
To date, no one has ever pointed me to a case of cancer or disease that can be conclusively,
exclusively connected to second hand smoke.
Not one case.
A favorite case from the anti-smoking zealots is a girl who supposedly suffered a near fatal asthma attack, and second hand smoke was blamed. The anti smoking zealots of course, fail to point out that the girl worked in her mothers FLOWER SHOP.
That’s just one example of the lies told by the zealots.
Millions of cases of second hand death by alcohol, not one from second hand smoke.
Anti smoke zealots use the same tactics as the RIAA, to hide fact and truth. Doesn’t that bother anyone ?

” The average life expectancy of cigar smokers (3-5 cigars per days) is virtually identical to non-smokers, where the difference is very noticeable for cigarette smokers. ”
In considering this, consider also …..
The average Cigar smoker does not inhale.
The only ‘exposure’ the average Cigar smoker incurs is thus ‘Second Hand’ smoke.
Interesting.
Most cigars smell more foul ( to me, anyway ) than any cigarette I ever smelled, and
yet I don’t piss and moan every time I run across someone smoking a cigar. There are
lots of other places I can be.

I’d guess that you smoke and can’t quit Dreddsnik.

” I’d guess that you smoke and can’t quit Dreddsnik. ”
That would only be partially correct, and still, as is typical of the antismoking religion, does nothing to present
ANY proof of anyone being ‘harmed’.
It’s the typical text book propoganda response to a lack of proof. The same tactics used by the RIAA and MPAA.
Make a specious claim.
Get many loud voices to speak that claim until the lie becomes the truth.
Use mass media to reinforce the claim, avoiding or ridiculing any claims to
the contrary.
I smoke a pipe. Have smoked it for years. I LIKE it
It’s a very relaxing ritual.
So, I guess you have no proof of any case of clear second-hand smoke injury then ?
If you did you wouldn’t quote from the Propagandist’ textbook, would you ?

at the very least marijuana should be fully legalized for its medicinal benefit towards the human body. Your body needs endocannabinoids, and actually naturally produces them, and cannabinoids are a nutrient your body needs that is being withheld from you.

“nd cannabinoids are a nutrient your body needs that is being withheld from you. ”
I agree with legalization, but THAT’S just plain bullshit.
Saying crap like that hurts the cause of legalization much more than it helps.
Stop it before you’re laughed out of the room.
