Apple un-hacks iTunes hack

p2pnet.net News:- For a while, those few souls willing to pay a dollar or more (depending on where they are) for an iTunes download almost had a fair deal.

Thanks to PyMusique, the brainchild of Travis Watkins, Cody Brocious and Jon Lech Johansen of DeCSS fame, they were able to get downloads that weren’t polluted with DRM.

But Steve got the boys on it right quick and, “Apple released a statement Monday saying the problem had been fixed, and that some iTunes customers would need to upgrade their software,” says ZDNet UK, going on.

“The security hole in the iTunes Music Store which was recently exploited has been closed, and as a consequence the iTunes Music Store will now sell music only to customers using iTunes version 4.7,” the company said in a statement.

So there !

if only you were as quick to acknowledge flaws in your mfg process and/or end products or even bugs in your software which your customers complain about you’d almost be respectable vs the exorbitant prices you charge.

Only idiots still use iTunes. I know at least six people who had their credit cards stolen through iTunes. Besides, music is to be shared, not to be sold.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

this is why I shall continue to dl music for free… =P

  4. Reader's Write Says:

Yep! It’s a shame. More and more I find myself willing to pay for tracks I want – but not DRM’d tracks.

  5. Reader's Write Says:

Funny, I get fewer bugs in OS X than Windows. And if you are happy with a $199 PC, good for you!

  6. Reader's Write Says:

I am a musician for the last 30 years and I’d love to shove those words down your throat! I’m tired of idiots stealing my music and thinking they can spread it for the better good of the Internet. Anytime, anyplace!

  7. Reader's Write Says:

All services have a DRM of some sort.

  8. Reader's Write Says:

nice assumption, I happen to own a powerbook that I fought tooth and nail to have the board replaced b/c of a problem in the mfg process, took sooo long to get them to do it it almost made me toss my G5 in frustration, instead I just used my presario LT with debian.

but thats ok, typical kneejerk response from a blind fanatic.

note: I also run one comp on my LAN with Win2k on it, properly buried behind the second router it seems ok, but I don’t use it to email etc.

lol, I’m sure ‘your’ music is just spreading rampantly throught the P2P networks…..I would have thought you might have been just as angry about CRIA holding back your payments from the blank media levy, or benefitting from your work with an outrageous cut of your sales, or the fact that your artistic integerity is at the hands of a bunch of suits who are so out of touch with the marketplace that they’ve churning out the same nelly/50 cent drama R&B Brittany Spear garbage for years now or ahhhh the list is endless….you should concentrate on harnessing this new distributive tool rather than marginalizing, imagine getting a fair return for your work without the middleman?

If you were any good…. and I’m not trying to insult you here. You should be happy if your music was being shared, for years artist have stated they only make money on tour… Well If I’d heard your music, and thought it was good, then I’d probably pay to see you perform it.

You see sharing as stealing your hard work….. Well I’m sure what you see as “hard work” I see as record it once, fix up the imperfections and then sit on my ass and make money for the rest of my life +20.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

Why not sue Apple for failing to make versions of itunes that will run on any platform? Apple is forcing users who want to use their store into using either a Windows or Apple based PC. It is like Macy’s saying only those who drive here in a Ford or a Toyota can shop here!

“Contrary to popular belief, the Macintosh operating system has not always been a safe haven from malicious code,” said the report, which was issued on Monday. “It is now clear that the Mac OS is increasingly becoming a target for the malicious activity
    …..
“Symantec said that over the past year, it had documented 37 high-vulnerabilities — weaknesses that leave the system open to malicious software attacks — in Mac OS X. They “have been confirmed by the vendor, which, in the Apple case, almost always means that the company has released a patch.”
