Google to dump AFP

p2pnet.net News:- Google has apparently decided it doesn’t want to pay Agence France-Presse for the privilege of including AFP in its indexing.

That’s a shame because AFP sometimes reaches parts other agencies don’t.

Anyway, AFP is suing Google for $17.5m for using copyrighted stories and pix without paying royalties – but, Google is now removing French news agency AFP from its news service, “which aggregates links to online articles and accompanying photos from about 4500 news outlet,” says PC World.

“Google doesn’t have a timetable for when all AFP links and content will be removed from Google News, but the company is actively working on the matter,” the story quotes Google spokesman Steve Langdon as saying.

you peoples have a amazing way to explain the subjet, GOOGLE IS THE ONE WHO GET SUED FOR ILLEGALLY USING AFP, and you make it look like AFP is the bad one , hum, very typical .

  2. Reader's Write Says:

“Illegally using AFP?” umm.. how is LINKING to their website “illegal”? AFP is clearly a collection of uneducated, slow-thinking dimwits who are too myopic to see the benefit they were receiving from Google, FREE OF CHARGE.

Good riddance to them! No one likes the French anyway.

  3. Reader's Write Says:

Just to clarify Google was not linking to the AFP website. The AFP website does not contain any content that is found on goggle news.

AFP wasn’t receiving any benefit from google publishing AFP content (free or otherwise) that was the problem.

Everyone else got a piece except of the action except AFP

  4. Reader's Write Says:

No you see Google was helping people find articles on AFP and directing people there. AFP is full of morons to even think Google is doing anything wrong here.

“AFP is suing Google for $17.5m for using copyrighted stories and pix without paying royalties –”

How is it this make AFP look like the “bad” one?

  6. Reader's Write Says:

… Creative Commons just looks better and better every day.

I’m really sick of sueing and prosecuting, don’t we have beter things to do? Honestly, if AFP can sue Google, we might as well get rid of indexing services period. Since they tend to link to everything anyways. You know what, I think I have picture of myself that shows up if you google my name in the image directory… Move over AFP, I want my 2 cents as well…

  7. Reader's Write Says:

What the hell are you talking about? That’s ALL that Google News DOES! It gathers blurbs from all news sources, indexes them, and when you click on the HEADLINE it takes you to their WEBSITE!

AFP was receiving the benefit of DRIVEN TRAFFIC. People were coming to their site that OTHERWISE wouldn’t have known that AFP was reporting this… some of them may have EVEN thought their crappy site was informative enough to subscribe.
