Amazon buys Amie Street
p2pnet view Music:- People who’d signed on to Amie Street as The New Hope are now part of the Amazon Empire.
In 2007 (then) indie download site AmieStreet.com said it’d completed Series A financing, “led by Amazon.com”, but gave no details.
Now “Amazon is acquiring online indie music shop Amie Street and will absorb all of the site’s members and services, the company said in a note to subscribers this morning”, says paidContent.
In a message to its members, as of September 22, “all AmieStreet.com pages will be forwarded to Amazon.com and you will no longer be able to use AmieStreet.com or any of its services”, it says, stating, “The folks at Amazon have been our advisers since they invested in Amie Street almost four years ago, and as a small thank you for your loyalty and support we’re giving you a $5 promotional code to spend at the Amazon MP3 store.”
Jeff Bezos and company “will shut down Amie Street’s retail operations, but the Amie Street guys will stay in New York, and focus exclusively on Songza, a music streaming service the company acquired last year”, says All Things Digital, adding:
“Terms weren’t disclosed, but it’s unlikely Amazon paid much for Amie Street, which tried an innovative retail model, based on variable pricing, that never really broke through.”
Said the site at 6:53 AM Pacific:
“Amie Street is currently down for maintenance . We’re working hard to restore the site as soon as possible and are sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks for your patience!
“The Amie Street Crew.”

Will the website be back up before the 22nd? I’m having doubts…bye bye to the credit in my account.
Such a shame to lose such a cool site…I really enjoyed using it.
RIP Aime.
