Disney to dish out user info
The
Walt Disney Company has decided to share user information with third parties.
Moreover, new customers will also accept all marketing options by default when they sign up on any Disney web site.
This means people who aren’t computer savvy won’t realize they’re in effect agreeing to accept - without reservation - any and every kind of SPAM mail and e-garbage Disney cares to send them. They can, of course, ‘opt out’ - if they know how.
Apparently, the policy change went into effect Nov. 6, but some customers have yet to receive the e-mail notifying them of the changes, says CNET News here.
The changes were made to, “help customer service operate more effectively between its offline and online businesses,” says the story. “In particular, Disney’s theme park business has witnessed a lot of crossover from people researching vacations online and then following up with a phone call to representatives.”
As consumers have, “become more advanced in their online behaviors … it has become clear that it’s difficult for us to handle customer service by not sharing information across companies,” Disney spokeswoman Kim Kerscher is quoted as saying.
