Actually,

As someone who is allergic to pet dander and dust mites, (oh and Oak Pollen) I can actually comprend this quite easily. About once a week I have to clean my bedroom tip to stern, vacumm, dust, mop, wash the sheets in hot water, plus I have to replace the pillows about every 2-3 months. (want to do something scary? buy a new pillow, weigh it. In about 3 months weigh it again) That weight differnce is dust mites.

Nowhere else would it be kinda-believable.

It would make a kind of perverse sense to worry about dandruff while the US produces most of the pollution on the planet without trying to reduce it.
