San Francisco blog fee?

p2pnet.net News:- “Just when you thought the Federal Election Commission had it out for the blogosphere, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors took it up a notch and announced yesterday that it will soon vote on a city ordinance that would require local bloggers to register with the city Ethics Commission and report all blog-related costs that exceed $1,000 in the aggregate.”

This wasn’t dated April 1. It’s from a March 31 post on the Personal Democracy Forum and it goes on:

“Blogs that mention candidates for local office that receive more than 500 hits will be forced to pay a registration fee and will be subject to website traffic audits, according to Chad Jacobs, a San Francisco City Attorney.

“The entire Board is set to vote on the measure on April 5th, 2005. I wonder if they’ll be forced to register their own blogs!

“The legislation was written by Supervisor Sophie Maxwell.”

If you’re in San Francisco, send her an email to, “Encourage her to treat bloggers and cyber-citizens as she would treat traditional journalists and voters,” suggests the Personal Democracy Forum, adding it would like e-mails to be also posted on the PDF site, “so we can keep track!”

If it is true, does she actually think that we are going to let her get away with it? I am tired of political hacks taking liberties with our Constitutional Rights. I wonder if the governemnts of the Police States of America are trying to provoke the people into fighting or what. Have all officials in the P.S.A. gone crazy?

I think it is more scared than crazy. At last, the masses have access to a media where they can afford to voice their opinion. Now, the political cartels are finding out that people are exposing their corrupt activities. They are also seeing that less affluent candidates (not corrupted by big money) are beginning to get publicity. I have forsaken the broadcast networks a long time ago. This is a message to all those who would make mechandise of the constituents, your days are numbered, you will be removed from office!!!!

It’s just not feasible to even find the locale where bloggers reside.

Never mind to find if they “mention candidates for local office” and if they “receive more than 500 hits”.

Hell, all of use who are NOT in SF should all make fake blogs where we pretend to be in San Francisco and talk trash about candidates for local office and mention we have more than 500 hits on that page.

Since we are NOT in SF we are not bound by their laws and thus any legal proceedings by them will be for nothing.
