Well, as a person who has used internet dating in the past it's an matter of getting what you pay for. Sometimes you find that the pics and description don't match. Other times, they turn out not to do justice to the person they're describing.

The whole reason people use these services IMHO is that especially in large cities it can often be hard to meet people of the opposite sex in a suitable environment. I abhor bars and pubs, and I generally believe that picking girls up in a bar leads to one night stands and casual flings. Using the internet you can at least establish a connection based upon your ideas and opinions before sitting down with the other person. I've been seeing a girl right now, who I met through jdate, and we can't believe how well we know each other even though we've just met.

It can be good thing if approached properly. Then again, there will always be a good sprinkling of horrible dates along the way...

is it time for a virtual condom/femi-dom yet? the virtual "pill"?

the internet is quite dangerous in general. you have no idea who anyone is in any message borad community/BBS.

as Match.com states above: “Not all criminal records are made public, and the databases used are not always up to date.”

and that's in supposedly safe and ideal environments.

forget finding love online. if you're physically able - go outside, away from the pc. go to a movie, take a walk in a park, go to a pub. take up a hobby. go to the library. make a small day trip, even if it's just a few miles away.

all of these activities and more are much more likely to help you find a new friend or partner without having to pay an unknown entity to search for you somewhere out in cyberspace.

nowhere is completely safe, but at least on your own turf you have a better chance.
