p2pnet view Off Topic:- Montreal’s brother Andre Bessette has only just been promoted to sainthood, but he’s been generating income for quite a while.
The caption to the pic on the right, a clip from a Graham Hughes photo for the Canadian Press run by the CBC, says in part, “Souvenirs of Brother Andre are shown in the shop at St Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal last February.”
He founded the oratory in 1904 and the photo accompanies a story on his elevation.
Now he’s officially a part of the miracle workers’ club, plastic statues of him, and other bits and pieces, will soon be available in good religious stores everywhere, as will similar representations of the other five new saints — mother Mary MacKillop, Australia’s first saint; Stanislaw Soltys, a 15th-century Polish priest; Italian nuns Giulia Salzano and Battista Varano; and Spanish nun Candida Maria de Jesus Cipitria y Barriola.
What was it they used to call ‘souvenirs’ from canonised saints way back?
Sacred relics, or something like that?
But why buy plastic statues when all you have to do is go to eBay where you’ll find “2 Antique Relics Of Saint Frere Andre Brother Bessette” for a mere $29 US.
Or how about an “Old and very ornate pewter reliquary stand 7,8 inches high by 4 inches wide with a hair relic ( ex-capillis ) of St. John Vianney (1786-1859), also known as the Priest of Ars and patron saint of all parish priests. Canonized in 1925″?
It was going for only $138.48 when we had a look at 7:29 am Pacific.
Remember Eeddie Marrs’ Plastic Jesus song? >>>
Well, I don’t care if it rains or freezes,
Long as I have my plastic Jesus
Riding on the dashboard of my car
Through all trials and tribulations,
We will travel every nation,
With my plastic Jesus I’ll go far.
Meanwhile, “A wealth of essential information: contacts, schedules, pricing, original proposals”, says the saint’s website. “Take your pilgrim’s staff and get on the road to St. Joseph’s Oratory in the footsteps of brother Andrew.”
Now you know.
