Randy and Evi Quaid: one-way ride to the US?
p2pnet view Movies:- It’ll be either a one-way ride to the US, or “access to Canadian benefits, including work permits, medical care and welfare” for actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi, who are trying to claim refugee status in Canada.
But it’s more likely to be the former, says immigration lawyer Richard Kurland.
Quoted by CTV News, “Statistically you have a better chance of being hit by a meteor than see a profile like this from the United States succeed in a refugee claim,” he said.
Last week the couple landed on Canada’s British Columbia doorstep claiming they’re in danger of being murdered by “star whackers” in the US.
Both are American fugitives, says the story, going on $50,000 bench warrants were issued for them after they “skipped an arraignment hearing in their felony burglary case”.
Whatdid they allegedly do?
They’re accused of “squatting in the guest house of a Montecito Home they once owned together and causing more than $10,000 damage”, it says, pointing out Evi “was also charged with resisting arrest”
CTV News has Kurland stating if the Quaids are allowed to tap into Canada’s refugee system, “the process will take a minimum of one to two years” during which they’ll “have access to Canadian benefits, including work permits, medical care and welfare.”
They were released on $10,000 bail each with their next hearing slated for Thursday, “at which point they’ll have to discredit the California charges and prove fear of prosecution back home – or their stay in Canada will be brief” it adds.
