Windows update scam alert
p2pnet.net News:- If you’re looking to take a Microsoft update on board, be careful.
Security firm Sophos says hackers have set up a fake Microsoft critical security patch site, no doubt inspired by the fact April 12 is the designated date for a number of Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Windows of which, "The greatest aggregate, maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical".
A spam campaign directs potenmtial victims to the bogus website. If they follow the links and try and download updates from the website, “they are infected by the Troj/DSNX-05 Trojan horse, which allows hackers to take remote control of the infected PC,” says Sophos, adding:
“Emails sent by the hackers claim to come from "Windows Update" <update@microsoft.com> and include subject lines such as "Update your windows machine", "Urgent Windows Update", and "Important Windows Update".
