p2p file sharing by phone

p2pnet.net News:- The entertainment industry cartels and other vested interest groups are spending mind-boggling amounts of money trying to nail down p2p and corral p2p file sharers.

But it’s all money down the drain because free file sharing is here to stay and new ideas and news ways of doing it are showing up every day.

One of the latest centres on the Skype VoIP system and Podcasting.

“Technologically savvy users are merging these technologies to ‘Skypecast’, using Skype’s service to distribute recordings across the internet for free,” says NewsTarget.com.

“This allows expert users to run their own mini-radio stations, which can be accessed by any Skype user. Skype does not actively support these uses, but encourages its users to find new applications for their service.”

The infrastructure of p2p file-sharinging programs makes them ideal for turning Net phones into broadcast systems, “as Skypecasters now do,” says NewsTarget.com, adding:

“Other possibilities discussed by Skypecasters at Unbound Spiral or Moodle are to turn an MP3 player into a radio station for any of Skype’s 29 million registered users to dial up using their Skype line.”

The trend will only increase, too. Every major electronics manufacturer is putting out portable “made-for-music” cell phones and/or wi-fi devices this year. Consumers will get used to listening to music via portable electronics pretty fast — Skypecasting will no doubt take a piece of that growing trend..!

This article should never have made it onto slashdot as it’s full of misleading inaccuracies.

Yes, Skypecasting is an interesting way of creating podcast content by recording Skype enabled voice interviews. We still haven’t found a way of doing this seamlessly and simply.

No, Skype is not suitable for sharing files although it is easy to send a single file to another Skype user in the middle of a conversation or chat.

No, Skype has nothing to do with multi-casting.
