Do-it-yourself p2p

p2pnet.net News:- As we’ve said several dozen times, it’s futile for the entertainment industry cartels to resist p2p and now, just to rub that in, “I was designing this GUI for a new p2p project I hope to complete in the near future when it hit me,” Ran Gever, told p2pnet when we asked him what had prompted his latest brain-child, DIYP2P.

He’s the maker of the Peer2Mail application and he says his new work makes it easy for almost anyone to create a p2p application.

DIYP2P, short for Do-It-Yourself p2p, is based on the open source project GnucDNA, “so the program you create can connect to G1 or G2 or both – already packed with files and users.“

DIYP2P eliminates the need to know c/c++ or deal with complex networking issues, says Geva, going on, “I created a demo application named Paranoia to demonstrate the power of the platform. Anyone can take this application and use it as a starting point for his project.

“Basically all you need to do is to think of a cool name, logo and a slick UI and you are set. You can think of DIYP2P as an open source project for non programmers.”

Geva says he hopes web site owners, “who provide a certain service to their members” will use DIYP2P to create a tailored version where the website service is integrated into the client.

“I hope users will create their own G1/G2 client and add/remove features they like and dislike.

“The more gnutella clients out there the bigger and better the network gets. It will be impossible to stop it since anyone can create and introduce their own P2P client.”

So how much of a techie do you need to be to use DIYP2P?

“You only need to know basic HTML to convert Paranoia to a new client,” he declares, adding:

“Of course, if you’re a DHTML/Javascript/Flash expert then your application will look much better and more powerful.

He suggested making a p2pnet client, integrating the p2pnet web site into it :)

Heh. We’ll see …..

Geva is also working on a tutorial.
