Today is SP2 D-Day
p2pnet.net News:- April 12 – today – is D-Day, the day you’ll get the automatic download of Microsoft’s XP Service Pack 2 Windows revision, unless you turned the auto-loader off.
That, presumably, is exactly what most, if not all, of 251 companies who said they didn’t want SP XP2 on their systems, will have done.
The companies represented two-thirds of the respondents in a study.
Appropriately, April 12 is also the date on which Bill and the Boyz will release:
5 Microsoft Security Bulletins affecting Microsoft Windows. The greatest aggregate, maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical. Some of these updates will require a restart. These updates will be detectable using the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA).
1 Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting Microsoft Office. The greatest aggregate, maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical. These updates will not require a restart. These updates will be detectable using MBSA.
1 Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting MSN Messenger. The greatest aggregate, maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical. These updates may require a restart. These updates will be detectable using the Enterprise Scanning Tool (EST).
1 Microsoft Security Bulletin affecting Microsoft Exchange. The greatest aggregate, maximum severity rating for these security updates is Critical. These updates will not require a restart. These updates will be detectable using MBSA.

Clearly this is a violation of hacking laws.
They are invading peoples computer, uploading and installing programs without their consent.
This is a slam dunk civil case and a very strong criminal one.
I’d pursue it if i didn’t use mac =)

1. They are not installing – just downloading.
2. The user either implicitly or explicitly okayed the download by activating (or not deactivating) the Auto Update feature of Windows.
For one to claim they didn’t know that this auto download feature existed would be ridiculous considering that the thing pops up at least once a day.
Your slam dunk just got thrown out of court.
I’m sorry about the mac =(
