Apple profits up, shares down
p2pnet.net News:- iPod sales apparently didn’t meet analysts’ “lofty expectations” and Apple Computer shares dropped 2% in pre-market trade, “despite the computer maker’s new six-fold increase in quarterly profit,” says MarketWatch.
“The stock, which Wednesday fell $1.62 to $41.04 before the results, was down 95 cents, or 2.3%, at $40.09 in pre-market activity,” it says.
What’s surprising is that shares haven’t absolutely plummeted because Apple is continuing to challenge the way on- and onflline print and electronic press outlets get much of their headline news – by developing information supplied by confidential sources.
Apple is trying to nail three Apple-friendly online publications for having the temerity to report ‘confidential’ information on Apple products before Steven P. Jobs was ready. So he let his legal eagles loose, claiming violation of trade secrets and wanting to know who, precisely, provided the information revealed by Think Secret, Apple Insider and PowerPage.
However, it’s also antagonizing the very people who have been responsible for the company’s meteoric rise - the media - and threatening both freedom of speech and the fabric of investigative journalism in America.
It could that a 2% drop will eventually represent the least of its troubles.

IMHO Think Secret, Apple Insider and PowerPage should all post a big message on their respective home pages that says “ALL APPLE COVERAGE SUSPENDED DUE TO HARASSMENT, INTIMIDATION, AND PERSECUTION BY APPLE”. Below that have a piece about Apple’s horrific attempts to distroy on-line freedom of the press. Then again, if the stock prices keep slipping the share holders will butcher management like no little web site(s) ever could. We can only hope.

Well, actually and um:
Continued ‘reporting’ (and in the context of p2pnet i use the term VERY loosely) on Apple, positive or negative, is fuel to the same fire: Lets all hear about, adore and watch Apple’s every single move. Even if your adoration is to the effect of loathing them.
It’s still all: “Apple, Apple, Apple”, which makes me ask - “Why is everyone talking Apple? I better check these guys out.”
Their monopoly on online music purchases, and near-monopoly in the DMP market will ensure that no-one jumps Apple’s ship.
In spite of all this, indeed, people will continue to pick-up and use Apple hardware (and, inherently, their software) because it works.
And that simple fact is enough to keep people excited. I’d prefer to be sued than try and use a Windows box to write this comment.
