Cisco goes into Topspin

p2pnet.net News:- Cisco is buying Topspin Communications for $250 million in cash and options giving itself, “a new crack at an advanced generation of switching that connects servers,” says TheStreet.com, going on:.

“The Cisco buyout is the second for Topspin’s CEO Krish Ramakrishnan, who originally joined Cisco in 1995 when Cisco bought his previous company, Internet Junction.

“Ramakrishnan then left Cisco to run Topspin, which was founded in 2000.”

PC Pro says Topspin’s particular forte is InfiniBand-based server fabric switches that connect servers together into a grid, and provide the server grid with network and storage connectivity.

"Its range of products are aimed at data centres within enterprises, service providers, research institutions, and universities, with mission critical applications that are computational and data intensive and require high availability."
