p2pnet freedom of speech appeal

p2pnet view P2P:- As regular readers know, I’m running a fund-raising effort for the p2pnet vs Wayne Crookes freedom of speech case, slated to be heard by the Supreme Court of Canada at the beginning of next month — September 7, to be exact.

It’s simple. If Crookes wins, the net as we know it in Canada will be killed stone dead. And that’s not an exaggeration. What’s more, the effects will ricochette around the world.

I’m trying to put together $5,000 for direct and unavoidable costs such as travel, accommodation, legal disbursements. My lawyer, Dan Burnett, is providing his time and services for free. But we still have to meet these out-of-pocket expenses.”

But has providence stepped in — and from someone based in my home town of London, England?

“I am Mr.Richard Williams From Harlsden, North West London, here in England”, says an email which arrived this morning, going on >>>

I am writing you from my office that will be of an imense benefit to both of us.I discovered an abandoned sum of £20.5 Million Great British Pounds Sterling (Twenty  Million Five Hundred Thousand Great British Pounds Sterling) in an account that belongs to one of our foreign customers Late Mr. Ost Bob, an American citizen who unfortunately lost his life in the plane crash of Alaska Airlines Flight 261 which crashed on January, 29, 2000, including his wife and only daughter.

I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin/Will Beneficiary to the deceased so that the proceeds of this account valued at £20.5 Million Pounds can be paid to you.we will invest this fund in a profitable venture .

Sixty percent of twenty million quid, eh? That should do the trick. 8-)

“This will be disbursed or shared in these percentages, 60% to me and 40% to you”, says Mr Wiliams, adding, “I will secure all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up this claim we are making. Please, provide me the following, as we have 7 working  days to run it through.
This is very very URGENT PLEASE. 1. Full Name. /2. Your Direct Mobile Number./ 3. Your Contact Address. Regards, Mr.Richard Williams. Tel: +447045767766″

Not really.

But Dan and I really do need help for our expenses and everything counts.

This’ll be the final post asking for donations, so if you feel able to put your hand in your pocket, now’s the time.

The hearing will be live streamed on the SCC website.

If you’d rather not use PayPal, cheques can be made out to “Owen Bird Law Corporation In Trust” and mailed to Owen Bird, 2900-595 Burrard St. Vancouver BC, V7X 1J5 (Attention: Dan Burnett, file ref. 26883-1); or, Jon Newton, a/c # 08720-5035779, PO Box 1532, Lake Cowichan, British Columbia, Canada V0R 2G0. This Royal Bank account has been set up specifically, and only, for the court case.

Anything remaining after the case will go to the Make A Wish foundation of Canada.

A guy i Denmark called Poul-Henning Kamp just raised 72.734,38 kr. (5,34 kr. = 1 US$) in just 3 days for legalcost from when he sued Lenovo, because they refused to refund the Microsoft-tax he payed when he bought a new laptop.

He made a wall of fame ( http://www.version2.dk/artikel/16880-lenovo-indsamlingens-resultat ) where he lists all contributions so noone can say that he pockets some of the money for himself. Maybe you should consider something like that ??

P.S. I’m not trying to get credit for my own contribution. You allready mailed me and said thanks.

    @ Peter:

I thought of doing something like that, but a lot of people don’t like having their names made public.

    Cheers!

  3. Peter Says:

Paul-Henning thought about that too, so he added a some underscores to the names, so the people are anonymous, but can be recogniced by themselves.
