p2pnet.net News:- The Vatican web site went offline yesterday, “presumably due to a surge of web users seeking information about the conclave to elect the next Pope, which began today at the Sistine Chapel,” opines Netcraft.
The site also had “extended outages’ as people looked for information Pope John Paul II’s health.
The Vatican has now changed its hosting infrastructure from a Hewlett Packard Tru64 Unix OS to Sun’s Solaris 9, says Netcraft.
“The site performed better in the wake of the switch, and was widely available during a webcast of the Pope’s funeral, but is struggling today.”

What I find very amusing (and I am a RC) about the cardinals electing the next pope was to see them lining up on TV to swear an oath of secrecy on the Bible.
They are cardinals. So why do they need to swear an oath. Isn’t their word good enough.
