I am all for a boycott just to show it isn’t hard to do. If it takes some folks a week to discover this, ok. The answer of a week isn’t going to help in the long run though. Won’t even make a decent blip in the yearly sales charts. Make it a lifetime till they get it together and you WILL make a difference.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Remenber it will cost you NOTHING!!!! But it will cost the majors!!!!!

  3. Reader's Write Says:

not just a day, its the whole last week of april!

and my motto is, if you don’t absolutly HAVE to buy their stuff… don’t ^_^ cause you can get it all on the internet. XD
Show them how much the internet filesharrer actually were supporting them, but artn’t now, because they suck! XD

Myself, I have been boycotting them ever since Audiogalaxy went down. That is not as long as some that started with the demise of Napster. As a fellow poster here made mention, it isn’t going to cost you anything. In fact if it is successful, it may well save you money.

This boycott comes at a prime time when EMI is worried about their income. At another site, I read that they had put off releasing several new entries believing now was not the time. This had the effect of driving down their stockprices (which will in turn drive away investors). They are worried about their bottom line and this could not come at a better time.

Again, show them you are serious. It is your money. The majors can not pull it out of your wallet and make you spend it. Show them what you think of their product, their tactics, and their business practices, and their prices.

Digital paid for downloans are nothing but a scam. There is no way that prices should be this high for such. It is inferior quality, there are no manufacturing nor packaging prices, and laced with DRM to ensure you must buy again. (That is the main purpose of DRM is to recreate the repeat buy since cds don’t wear out at the rate of vinyl and tapes.) Unless you got more money than sense, you should support this. We’re not even talking the love to hate monickers here with their legal beagle ways of attempting to control the market, individuals, and all sales points.

Total waste of time , the only time of have heard of this is on this site which means that bugger all people know about which means it will be a dismal failure – whoever thought this one up should have thought about how to actually get p2p users to know about it.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

Actually, I have read of it at several sites. I personally know of 4 sites that have posted mention of it with special articles on when. While I am not a gadfly about internet sites, limiting those that I go to as just a handful, I am well aware that it is indeed out there and posted for all to see. What I don’t know is how many college campuses this has made a splash at. The college students are particular targets for this sue em all campain and they would be the ones to really make a difference in it.

Hmmm….Too bad there are too many movies I want to see this weekend. Well have fun sitting home cheering each other online while the rest of us are out having a good time.

yeah, have fun while people are talking and crinkling candy wrappers in your ear.

have fun listening to people behind you constantly asking “who’s that?”, or “what did he say?”, or “what just happened?”.

have fun walking on wet, sticky carpets and tiles.

have fun sitting in a smelly seat where who know’s what was recently spilled or vomited on it.

have fun listening to crying kids whose parents take them to PG-/PG13-/R-rated films because although they can afford a few cinema tickets, they can’t be bothered to pay for a babysitter – either that or they couldn’t find a babysitter to watch their brats for a few hours.

have fun waiting in bad weather on long queues, only to find out the current mediocre “blockbuster” you’d set your heart on seeing is sold out.

yeah, have fun. i guess you have a lot of disposable income.

i’ll be warm and comfortable this weekend, watching what i want, when i want – including certain “blockbusters” and won’t have spent a penny, other than my monthly internet costs.

i’ll be thinking of you when i make my own free popcorn, or lying on my soft, comfortable sofa, or lounging in my favorite comfy easy chair.

yeah, i’ll be thinking of you. and laughing. :P

i haven’t been to a cinema for over 6 years.

i only buy discounted dvds or cds – a year or more after they’ve been on sale – when they’re in the bargain bins at a fair price.

storm in a tiny teacup – what only 4 sites know about it?? so in other words hardly anyone knows about it , totally pointless the majority of dorks who still buy media in shops dont donwload and are totally clueless as to p2p (much like mac users) as are the twats who get caught are dumb enough to be still using kazaa so this wont make a dink in their sales

This should have been scheduled a month in advance in order to get the word out. Most people I Know have no idea about the boycott. I just found out about it a couple of days agao. I will be sure to notify my local caollege campus.

Right now, I’m trying to get a boycott going against all BP and Exxon gasoline stations. People should not buy from these companies untilo the price of their gasoline in 10 cents below that of their competetors. Let’s make the oild companies compete for a change.

this boycott was announced in december 2004 in these pages –

    [Monday 20th December, 2004]
    http://p2pnet.net/story/3345

and it’s been publicised on all of the larger (and smaller) p2p/technology news boards/websites since then.

and since then, it has been gaining support everywhere, with other types of events/boycotts being planned.

    where have you been? :)

it’s not very recent. but there are still a few people (perhaps yourself) who are just now becoming aware of it. and others who may have forgotten – or didn’t realise how soon it was – and need a “little reminder”.

unlike the (unfortunately) failed attempt to bring back Star Trek Enterprise for a 5th season, this boycott requires the “customer”/”consumer” to do absolutely nothing. no donations are being requested. you aren’t being asked to write letters or email or make phone calls. you aren’t being asked to buy anything.

you are being asked to not buy anything from any of the cartel members.

    happy downloading – for free!

  12. Reader's Write Says:

…but the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy movie opens on the 29th!

Fine, I guess I can wait a few days to see it.

  13. Reader's Write Says:

I will gladly participate. Movie rental should only be done for ripping and sharing. If the cartel gluttons want to continue charging exhorbitant prices for corrupting my country, then let’s stick it to them.
