NPR ‘Digital copyright’ show
p2pnet.net News:- On April 5 the NPR (National Public Radio) in the US featured a Justice Talking debate between communications professor and author Kembrew McLeod and the MPAA`s (Motion Picture Association of America) Dean Garfield.
Digital copyright, the MGM v Grokster case, p2p, music sampling and more were among the topics, and the audience was encouraged to ask questions.
McLeod is a journalist, activist, artist and professor in the department of communication studies at the University of Iowa. He is the author of two books on intellectual property and culture, Owning Culture: Authorship, Ownership and Intellectual Property Law and Freedom of Expression: Overzealous Copyright Bozos and Other Enemies of Creativity. the co-producer of a 2001 documentary on the music industry, Money for Nothing: Behind the Business of Pop Music.
Garfield is vp and director, legal affairs, worldwide anti-piracy at MPAA. He used to work at the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America), where he managed several intellectual property cases, including litigation against Audiogalaxy, Grokster, Kazaa, Launch and MusicCity.
He was also responsible for the management and execution of the Parental Advisory Board.
The show was taped and will be posted to the NPR Justice Talking site tonight.
