eBay’s PayPal cuts off WikiLeaks
p2pnet view P2P | Politics:- What does WikiLeaks have in common with thousands of innocent and pissed off PayPal users?
It’s had its PayPal account suspended.
PayPal is owned by eBay which on the official blog states >>>
PayPal has permanently restricted the account used by WikiLeaks due to a violation of the PayPal Acceptable Use Policy, which states that our payment service cannot be used for any activities that encourage, promote, facilitate or instruct others to engage in illegal activity.”
We’ve notified the account holder of this action.

Or a cached version does.
When we went to check at 5:40 am Pacific, the site was, interestingly, down.
eBay was doubtless encouraged to take the action by Obama enforcers who also had WikiLeaks blocked by the US Library of Congress, as TPMMuckraker pointed out.
[One can only imagine the painful wringing of hands which ensued as PayPal People counted the money lost due to the action.

And meanwhile, ”Spain’s Congress is about to vote on a new and extremely harsh copyright/Internet law”, says Boing Boing, going on:
“It’s an open secret that the law was essentially drafted by American industry groups working with the US trade representative.
“But it gets gets more interesting: 115 of the Wikileaks cables intercepted from the US embassy in Madrid were tagged with ‘KIPR’ — that is, relating to ‘intellectual property,’ The big question has been: will El Pais, the Spanish newspaper that has the complete trove of Wikileaks cables, release them in time to affect the vote on the new law?”
Stay tuned.

PayPal should be shut down, they are not to be trusted. I had to request a credit card charge-back, in the past, to recover money for non-delivery of goods from a PayPal merchant, because PayPal were obstructive and helpful; it was a lot of hassle and wasted time, so PayPal, thus eBay, are on my _permanent_ Black-list!
Anyone who only accepts payment/donations via PayPal can go swivel, the morons!
Wikileaks should know better than to use PayPal, but at least they use other payment services too.
