RIAA is MPAA ratings system

p2pnet.net News:- What’s h2g2?

It’s a “living, breathing guide that’s constantly being updated and revised,” says the BBC, which launched it.

Looks almost like Wiki, don’t it?

Anyway,
h2g2’s inspiration came from The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy author Douglas Adams who in, 1971, “imagined a time when we’d have hand-held electronic devices that could access information about almost any place, object, time or event,” says the site.

Adams’ vision is, “now a reality in the form of h2g2 Mobile,” says the Beeb, hastily going on to point out that, “At the moment it’s not technically possible to write entries or post to the site’s conversation forums via mobiles.”

Oh. OK.

When we keyed *peer-to-peer* into the h2g2 search box we got:

"Created: 20 Jun 2003 – There has been a lot of interest in the media about peer-to-peer services and file sharing, but what exactly is peer-to-peer?

"Put simply, peer-to-peer is the free sharing of information, usually files, over a common network, such as the Internet. The principle behind it is that each user on the network (peer) can connect to any other user’s computer and share files with them. In true peer-to-peer networks, all computers are equal, there are no servers and no overall control (except that which the program itself provides). True peer-to-peer networks are rare.

"Peer-to-peer dates back to the origins of the Internet, when only a dozen computers were connected to the ARPAnet network connecting a few universities together. There was little or no security and any user connected to the network could view any other user’s files, by connecting to their computer directly."

But when we tried *Recording Industry Association of America* we got,"Motion Picture Association of America Ratings System".

Now you know : )
